I'm going to put my football neck on the line

And say it...

I think we're going to struggle next season.

I know that we're not back from holiday yet but I can sense the way the wind is blowing.

The poor end to last season will be compounded by a poor transfer window and losing our best players (due to them being loans that don't return).

I feel like Chuba will become a sideshow where the story all summer will be will he go here or there and regardless what happens we either won't get the money we want for him until it's too late to allocate wisely or he will stay and have far less impact.

So there you go, I hope this thread gets hoofed in 9/10 months with many many clown face and laughing emojis. UTB

Impossible to say at the moment, as there are so many scenarios in the tranfer window to play out that will dictate the success and strength of the squad/ season.

Love your optimism though ;)

We have a very solid base from which to build off. Recent transfer windows have not disappointed. Every season is a struggle. Leicester, Southampton and Leeds into the mix with established championship sides looking to strengthen. It's gonna be tough.

Zach Steffen - taken for granted by many.. he will be tough to replace
Ryan Giles - assist king, hopefully we have a deal in place.
Alex Mowett - quiet the first half of the season.. but didn't seem to put a foot wrong. easier said than done to replace.
Aaron Ramsey - unreal, can he even replicate the effect he had on the squad. far from certain to return
Cameron Archer - Championship cheat code. Who wouldn't fancy him?
Rodrigo Muniz - Josh Coburn could impress in pre season..

Then there's Chuba.. keeping hold of him, keeping him 100% and the rest of the squad. It seems injuries have decided our fate the past few seasons.. strength and depth in the squad.. AND THEN SOME!

It's not going to be easy.. we just need to be better than 3 premier league teams and then 20 championship teams that on their day can beat any team in the league.

The two seasons ive been most optimistic about in recent times were Strachans jockification season, and the start of the season just gone under WIlder - and look how they both turned put!!! Manager gone before christmas!!!!

So I am refusing to be optimistic and I'm gonna state we are going down with 12 points!!!

The Championship possibly the most competitive league in the world.

We may struggle next year only time will tell but your argument is not very compelling based on your original post.

I admit I didn't go into depth but it was more there to say this is what I can see is happening.

I've crunched the numbers, kicked the tires, tackles the tactical strategy, analysed the ankles and it's spat out 12th-7th.

I hope MC sees his long term future here because I think 2024/25 will be a better opportunity if we don't throw the baby out with the bathwater after this year's disappointment.

2 seasons worth of predictions now - you are on fire today my man! 😂

I think we will see exactly what Carrick has got as a boss next season. I think Akpom will go - very much trailed his ambition for higher level football now - not another season of the Championship we can offer. Finding another Steffan will be a huge challenge.we don’t just need a good keeper, Steffan’s distribution was a key part of our success. He and Akpom will be a huge miss. I hope we get Giles but clubs with a lot more money than us will have watched what he did last year and be interested in signing him on. Sadly I also don’t see Archer coming back at the start of the season - maybe January if he doesn’t get a chance at Villa. Ramsey would be a great addition if we can keep him fit. Losing 4 of our best assets is going to be a massive challenge for Carrick. It will be fascinating to see who we get to replace them. Can’t also understate the impact of Howson’s injury on the end of our season. He was a massive loss but as he comes to the end of his playing days who is going to replace the huge gap he leaves. I think Carrick will keep us in the race for promotion but next season’s Championship looks way stronger that last years. Can’t wait for the season to start

I get the reason why some might be a little pessimistic and the end of the season under Carrick was underwhelming and we didn't rant turn up when it matters most, so some question marks there, that's the truth.

I think we'll be pushing for the play offs again, the to two may be to much fire us, but with the right signings you never know.

After Akpoms seasons last year and our turnaround in form I guess you could say nothing surprises us in football right?

Typical boro would be to finish 18th after the season we just had! 😂

It is all about recruitment, In my dream world we get Archer, Ramsey and Giles back again, sign a wave breaker in midfield and a decent CB, RB and Goalie, alongside cover for LB and CF and hold onto Chuba we’ll definitely be top 6, possibly top 2.

If we do not get the quality of recruitment right, compromising quality over cost, we may as well sell Chuba otherwise he walks anyway for nowt and we can’t afford that.

I’m full of hope, but lacking in expectation as things stand, it is kitchen sink time for me, I’m hoping Gibson & Scott give Carrick the tools to do the job.

Look at your wishlist, the challenge we're facing is quite daunting.

If it was going to happen the first team signings would be getting over the line right now.

This is my transfer window spoiler alert:-

2 maybe 3 signings around mid July a few links thrown in and lots of rumours amounting to nothing. Couple of last minute loans in August. It's coming and I think deep down a lot of us know it.
