If we can sign Greenwood for £1.5m

Wonder if we'll try and sign him permanently in January if he's a fixture in the first team? No need with spare loan spots I suppose.

He's probably worth more than that already so from a purely commercial sense it's a no brainer.

That said I was excited when we signed him and still are. I think he's got bags of potential and appears to be adapting to our style of play well. Not far off being a regular starter for me.

He had obvious ability from the start and should be a regular from now on.
Smashing lad, great workrate and that little bit of class that is so hard to find.

Maybe some can move on from him swinging in his chair at his first press conference.
It only mattered how he played - and he has played bloody well.

I hope we really do have a deal in place and Leeds don't ask for more if he keeps performing
It's been reported we have a 1.5m option to buy

If his wages aren't silly ( which they could be given it's dirty L**ds ) . Then it's a no brainier as it stands.
He's shown enough ability, and just as important, defensive responsibility to warrant it.

Aaron Ramsey made 11 league game appearances for us.. and we didn't have an option to buy.. and he seems to have a problem with injuries.

Sam Greenwood had played the equivalent of 4.5 games for us and has 2 goals.. we'll see who is Aaron Ramsey from wish at the end of the season..
I’m with you. Ramsey is extremely talented but his injury record isn’t great. Burnley have forked out a lot of money for him. Feels risky to me

The equivalent of 2 goals in 4.5 games for us.. I'm not sure what some fans even expect anymore!

We had our fingers badly burned last season so we’ve def learned and are wiser now.

I don't think it's just that, though I am pleased we've got this clause in place.

I think he's a different calibre of loan player to last season. If we'd asked for a clause to buy Archer, I don't think Villa would ahve agreed to less than 15m. Ramsey and Giles maybe would have been a bit cheaper, but they both had reputations.

I've said before, I think you have to use the loan system in this division. If you don't, someone else will, and they'll pip you to promotion because of it. Who was the last promoted team without one or two loan signings in their first choice 11?

However, there's a difference between what we've done last season: blowing the lion's share of our budget on higher profile loan signings.

I think if you’re in playoff contention come January it’s a good time to take a punt on a loan signing or two, even if you have no chance of signing them permanently come the summer.

If we have, say, £2m in the kitty, I’d rather we went for someone like Archer on loan rather than another permanent signing for us to develop over time.

The summer transfer window is the time for permanent signings and building your squad assets. (Which we have done well)

That makes no sense. Why would we give £2 million away, for free, to loan a player... for 6 months. If we don't get promoted we find ourselves worse off.... again, like every season.

Greenwood is 21 ... which to put into perspective is the same age as Jeremy Sivi, who we currently have out on loan at Harrogate Town.

I'd give Leeds £2 million to sign him permanently tomorrow.

Of course it make sense…. You can either loan a £20m player for 6 months, or sign a £2m player.

Ideally you need to do a bit of both. Not many teams (if any) get promoted out of this league without a few premier league loans

I'm glad you're not in charge of recruitment given the option to buy is £1.5m.

I'd give them £1.5m myself like 😉

I think the point is you can sometimes get a higher calibre of player through the loan market than permanent signings. Archer wasn't available to buy in January, not at any price that we could afford. We were able to get him on loan.

Ayton is suggesting a difference-maker; that little bit of quality that might get us over the line.
If it makes the difference between promotion and another season in the championship, then it was worth it, wasn't it?

It's a gamble of course, but so is any permanent signing. We signed Britt for £15m and gave him away for free at the end.
There's always a risk that it backfires, but no one get promotion without some element of risk. Even Luton smashed their transfer record to get Morris in last season.
