I Would Like To Go In This Pub !!!

For all Humphrey is a nutcase he's doing a huge service to this country in the pubs he owns ( including his privately owned ones).

I don't mind a Sammy Smiths. But not sure he's doing a huge service with his pubs. Averse to keeping many of them actually open, or creating the right environment for staff/landlords. If somewhere is open at that point in time, OK, but erratic ownership ultimately helps no one. Except himself.

Bessies

This post reminded me of this incredible place. Has anybody else been?Bass was scooped out of what appeared to be a small tin bath but was a lovely drop.

Lmao the majority of his landlords would disagree with you there
I meant to posterity.
My local village pub closed down as it was ( and still is) privately owned by Humphrey...he could not get anyone to take it on Beautiful grade 2 ex Manor house.
Hopefully Samual Smith ( the son) will be a bit more pragmatic. I love the no music, iPhone etc rules in Sammy Smiths pubs btw.

Off the top of my head, Boro pubs no longer which were regulars on my pub crawls:

The Acklam
The Albert
The Albert Park Hotel
The Bodega Bar
The Borough Hotel
The Brunswick
The Cycling Club
The Commercial
The Fleece
The Glass Barrel
The Gosford
The Queens
The Red Rose
Rooney's
The Steam Packet
The Trooper
The Westminster
The White Rose

Is the Robin Hood still there?

He ramped the prices up post Covid and never put them down. Not sure what the price of a pint is now but it wasnt far away from club prices at one point.

I went to a Masonic lodge type place in gilberdyke.. basically a big group of blokes clubbed together to buy a cheap row of houses.. similar to Bedford street before the hipsters moved in..

It wasn’t the whole row.. say 3 or 4 houses.. from the outside it just looked like a normal row of houses.. doors windows etc.

But one door had a cool high security entry on it.. inside all the houses had been knocked together to make a big proper big old pub with snooker tables.. I think they had a function room.. and there was defo a checked square are for asre spankings or whatever.

Good idea.. lots of tradesmen involved that sorted it out at cost.. decent gaff.. got bladdered.. job done.

Port Clarence Gentleman’s Club anybody?
