I think some people need to accept one thing - Boris is popular

1997 shows yes.

In 2017 Labour had what would usually be enough votes to win but the tory vote surged as well. Perhaps it would have been an idea for the right of the party to back the leader at the time. Remember we had clowns like Kezia Dugdale actually going out telling people to vote tory.
1997 though Blair erased socialism from the party even changing its name and symbols everyone loves roses and abolishing Clause 4 plus backing PFI schemes introducing the market.

it was said thatcher once said Blair was her greatest legacy and I think that’s true the tories had no answer as he was doing what they did only better.

after his election win it was said Blair took two book into no 10 with him one was thatchers biography the other was Machiavelli’s “the Prince”.

Load of Rubbish - Boris outplayed the EU, if it was all thanks to Europe then why did they throw their toys out of the pram over AZ contracts? ..... yeah exactly, the EU were slow and Britain thanks to BREXIT ordered its own vaccines earlier and with better contracts
I can’t take you seriously... You’ve got to be on a wind up. I’m out.

And yet, as per my previous post, Labour 1997 were promising to nationalise the rails and multiple constitutional changes - the Lords, the voting system, devolution.

Thatcher got in to power promising to make big changes to the country.
Then Blair got in to power promising to make big changes to the country.
Then Cameron got in to power promising to make big changes to the country.
Then Corbyn came close in 2017 promising to make big changes to the country, despite his own party working against him.
Then in 2019 Labour went to the polls promising to cancel a big change and got battered.

I’ve seen a lot on here slagging him off for this and that and I’ll admit I don’t get it either but regardless of what we think the reality is that Boris is hugely popular with the British electorate.

often in politics the party is more important than than the leader but in Boris the tories have a truly unique asset he is the key to their success not policies not legacy but the individual himself.

look at the reception he got in his visits to Hartlepool, similar to trump in the us the man the myth is bigger than the fact and reality.

the question is how do you fight this in such a celebrity obsessed multi media world.
Where's Trump now?

He does get away with some things by acting the fool. He also quite likes embarassing himself. People say hes an idiot but he managed to be elected Mayor of London (mainly left wing City) and now PM with a majority bigger than Cameron and May. I don't agree with how he conducts his private life neither, but we have had worse (Lloyd George for example)

You make a good and obvious point that some of the people like him who haven’t figured him out
The fraud will be his downfall and it is probably coming shortly with this ‘payment’ for the flat demonstration that he was compromised in arranging that despite being unlawful
It’ll bring him down

I don't think it will. What will get him in the end is his incompetence and innate laziness. The people know he's dishonest, many of them even admire him for it. I suspect his demise is a long way off but hope to God I'm wrong.
