I’ve not read a novel in years

I think if you've not read anything for a bit I'd recommend Harry Pearson.
Although you did say novel and maybe his books don't count as novels so I'd say....

Marathon Man by William Golding.
The Wall by John Lanchester
Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine
The end of the world running club.
They were all good.👍
 
My personal favourite , or one of them
Gates of Fire by Stephen Pressfield
Historical novel along the Bernard Cornwell lines, historical fact entwined with fiction.
