I’m a bit worried why Carrick & the rest of his coaching team can’t see how bad Engel is. He was at fault either totality or directly for 4 of the goals tonight, and at 5 if you count that the whole of the team refused to pass to him & Clarke got caught out playing a direct straight pass instead of passing out wide to Engel. It was apparent against Rotherham at the weekend that his team mates don’t trust him with the ball in semi tight positions.
O’Brien would even playing out of position must be a better option. Engel is the worst Boro player I’ve seen since Ryan Shotton, at the moment it’s neck & neck, get him out of the team please Mr Carrick
 
Engel was bad against Rotherham. I don't think he was any more terrible than anyone else tonight

For me Clarke had a mare tonight, cost us the 2 of the first 3 and ended the game. It happens, he's been solid more often than not, but had a sht one tonight
 
Would love to know why some of our fans consistently think they know better than a 5 times Premier League winner, Champions League winner, FA Cup winner, 3 time League Cup winner, ex-England international that sees him up close every day, presumably has all the data on him and what he offers and picks him regularly.
 
Completely over the top.
However people do target our left hand side if Mcgree or Bangura don't play in front of him, as nobody else seems to have the discipline to help out defensively.
It's it lot easier playing behind Jones / Forss at RB , than behind Rogers / Greenwood/ Silvera / whoever at LB
 
Clarke and engel cant play together theres not enough pace if engel bombs foward clarke cant get over to cover him hes not quick enough. Engel whilst his improvement is admirable is still miles of being a solid option at left back. First choice back 4 has to be bangura vdb fry and ayling. We need to get a better option than greewood at left midfield as well the sooner mcgree is back the better

You need pace to play at a higher level. Engel will never make a Premier league full back hes just too darn slow. With the right coaching bangura could make it hes raw but at least has pace.
 
You also need footballing ability, which isn't to say he doesn't have any, but the idea that just because someone is quick means they automatically have more potential as a footballer is nonsensical.

You also don't NEED pace to play at a higher level. Plenty of players aren't lightning quick and still succeed. Again, this isn't FIFA.

Interesting view could be valid, he always looks a bit awkward

In ideal world would be Bangura at LWV and Engel as LCB but bangura is injured so who else we play there apart from a academy player
 
Most had shockers last night . Clarke was ok as was Dael ,,, keeper didnt really have any chance with the 6 shots .. Others were average , HH was poor as was Balaser . Engel was just out of his depth .. ,,, Look it was fkg Chelsea with multi-million squad ,,, Judge against champo sides ....

Clarke was ok really i stopped reading there he was absolutely dreadful

This 100%, every time a numpty comes on here slating him, it amazes me they can’t see this and that he’s constantly left 2 on 1 due to the lazy sh1thouses we seem to play in front of him.
