Howsons pen papering over the cracks in his performance?

He was caught flat footed early doors which led to Adams having a chance, gave the ball away cheaply still on many occasions (Hackney was also guilty of this). We need to stop these basic errors to climb the table.

Howsons tasks are basic, pass 5 yards left, right or back. Run around chasing shadows. The penalty seems to paper over his errors which go unseen by many.

Age is catching up with him

Hmm.. he put in a shift and turned on the lace when he needed to

Would have loved us to sign this Tyler Morton playing for Hull as his replacement. Proper ball winning centre mid who can play a bit too

I've not been Howson's biggest fan this season, but thought his overall game was better yesterday.

There are still some positional issues. Howson and Hackney both losing players in front of the defence.

The goal was Crooks giving it away and Lenihan (also poor this season in my opinion but necessary to the team) missing the run across him.

Overall a good performance and a good head.

It was a shocking pass from Fry to Crooks to be fair

Howson has not been fully at it this season, maybe the injury has taken a bit off him.
Stepped up and smashed the pen when needed, so nice one, hopefully his sharpness will return soon.

Howson was as culpable as anyone in the match vs QPR.

I thought he had a decent game yesterday; that run carrying the ball out of defence must have been lung bursting at his age. Coburn didn't do him a lot of favours by staying offside for the pass on that occasion.

I always find "Papering over the cracks" a naive phrase. It implies that players/teams should not have "cracks". They all do at this level: there are no perfect players or teams.
The league is won by the team that does the best job of papering over its cracks.

O'Brien was tracking Armstrong but slowed and let him run free across the box behind Lenihan.

Thought he was shocking in the first half.

Almost every pass he made was wayward.

It was one of the few negatives for me in what I thought was a very decent first half performance from the team as a whole.

Took a great penalty though and was much improved in the second half.

I find it hard to criticise players like Howson who are stalwarts for years on end, proper professionals.
Felt the same for George Boateng towards the end of his career, was so good for years he had earned a run of bad games, but fans instantly got on his back at the first signs of slowing with age.
