How many points has Lumley cost us

Why’s it crazy? We have a player in a key position who is making a huge mistake almost every game now
Becasue you come on here full of negative jibes, when they had a shot after about 20 minutes & Lumley clutched it my 1st thought were some posters on here will actually want him to make a mistake & the ball would end up in the back of the net, sad I know
I dont think there are many Boro fans who call him their No1 Boro keeper but come on he's here for the duration, after a great fight back you still want to slag off an important memeber of the 1st team who is part of a very good team

Have to say I think some of you are overreacting to my/others comments. It's perfectly normal to want to discuss how boros players got on after a match and they won't all be the hero every week.

The thread IMO doesn't have a load of hyperbole and isn't attacking Lumleys character so its fair game. He could have very easily cost us the points tonight because he did make big errors.

What's the supposed benefit of sticking our heads in the sand and pretending he had a great game?

Erimus, I can assure you I don't want Lumley and Boro to concede goals.

Agree its a debate, but to post about a player been s%&$e is 100% incorrect

There are a few posters who keep spouting "In CW we trust" then continue to tell him how wrong he is to continully pick Lumley, CW didnt even try to sign a keeper in January, then again finish off their post with "In CW we trust"

I genuinely don’t think a single Boro fan would have wanted him to make a mistake, what a bizarre thing to say. Fact is though he is making a mistake almost every single game now, if anything he’s actually getting worse

It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point. You can sense the crowd collectively s**t themselves when the ball is played back to him and that clearly weighs on his mind and leads to mistakes. That said, what is the alternative? I’d trust Wilder to play Daniels if he thought he’d preform better so he must be seeing something in training to satisfy himself that we’d be worse off with him in goal instead. Tough one.

He had another poor game tonight.

He's making mistakes in every match lately, he's fortunate that they've somehow rarely led to goals because of other players clearing up.

I appreciate that he's having to be far more involved in play than he was under Warnock, it puts him under more pressure and you could forgive the occasional mistakes on the ball if he was making more saves, but he rarely does.

Noticed the defenders seem very reluctant to give him the ball now if he is under any sort of pressure, Fry put the ball out of play tonight instead of going back at one point.
Crowd really don’t help but you can understand it, you feel he has a mistake every time he touches the ball

Its pathetic saying that a Boro supporter would want him to make a mistake.
However there is no getting away from him being our weakest link at the moment
and for the season so far.

He could have cost us two goals, firstly when he came out to clear the ball and skewed the clearance. Was very fortunate it didn't fall to a West Brom player or he could have been humiliated.

The second time when he came rushing out again and didn't get to the ball, even though Djiksteel, McNair and Fry were all in decent positions and should have been able to deal with the situation. Again he could have been made to look a mug.

His distribution was terrible at times as well. There was a moment 2nd half when he tried to play what should have been a simple ball out to McNair and somehow mispaced the pass. Luckily McNair dealt with the situation well and made the tackle but again it could have cost us a goal.

It's obvious that Lumley makes a few mistakes but it's obvious that he's a more than competent goalkeeper, imagine if you had somebody pointing it out everytime you made a mistake whether that be tiny or huge. The lads confidence will be shot. Reading through this thread he was hammered for the Bristol game which amazes me. As boro fans win, lose or draw we always have to have a dig at somebody. We need to get behind our winning team. I notice there isn't a thread about mcnairs back pass header which nearly lead to a goal? Let's not make a scapegoat of Joe and get behind the lads.

We have had and continue to have 2 weaknesses in the team. Firstly, strikers. We don’t have someone you could rely on to score regularly.

And, secondly, the keeper situation. We’ve been fed mediocrity in this position for far too long. Lumley has a ricket in him and this tends to manifest itself far too regularly. Let us all be completely honest - does he inspire complete confidence in his ability?

I have to say- the truly honest answer- is no. His distribution goes from great to ghastly- and it is the inconsistency of his keeping overall that is - and has to be- a major concern.

It’s about time, im sick of seeing our defenders pass him the ball when he has an attacker closing him down, about time a defender realised that’s not a good idea, and they are often in a better position to deal with it rather than pass the buck and hope the keeper does.

At least under Wilder he’s picking the ball out of the net less.
