How good does Boro legend Graeme Souness look

Never seen a man boss games so consistently. The quintessential midfield general. Hard as nails.
Met him and he is very modest in real life
Along withe TLF my all time Boro favourite.
Will always be the King of Ayresome Park.

Wonderful player. Some people think he looked like Yosser Hughes when he was younger.

Best Boro player for me
Would love to have seen him up against Keane and Viera.
Similar players except Souness was a great finisher, scored some spectacular goals.

Always suprised he never made a great Manager but I suspect like Keane he'd struggle managing players who never gave it 100% in training and games.... all the time.
And to be a truely great Manager you have to be able to manage them all.

I remember going to Stoke with my dad. Souness scored a beauty, and it was on the Match of the Day intro for the season. I wonder if he considers himself more of a Liverpool legend that a Boro one?
Will always be a Boro one for me.

We knew even then he was class, we only had him for about 4 years or so and knew once in the liverpool team he would get the recognition that was hard for Boro players to get, how did Craggs never get an England call up? drop him into liverpool team he would have been in there instantly.
Maybe like some great players they struggle with lesser talents who cannot read the game as well or just cannot do what to them is instinctive, and certainly in many comments Souness has made as a pundit he has little time for inconsistent / lazy players whom often flatter to deceive.

He was right about Alan Ball as well, when you look at pitches now and pitches from 70/80's dear god how we have come on. The beach we played on when beating sunderland at Ayresome,

He may well have been right about Ball as a player, but certainly not as a man.
Alan Ball ruined a day playing at Wembley for very many of us lucky enough to play.
Ball was a little ********* in the eyes of everyone there.
Eddie Gray on the other hand was a fabulous bloke that day with everyone.

indeedio,
tell me more,

Now eddie grey, what a beautiful player he was, for my sins as a youth Leeds were my team until Big Jack joined Boro and I bought a season ticket so my first season was 73-74 what a way to fall in love with a club.

I remember watching a game Sounds was a guest on. The host asked if he still looked out for Newcastle results. He said yes, but not only them. Middlesbrough and Liverpool too.

It was a Corporate event at old Wembley in the early nineties and there were about fifty of us lucky enough to play at Wembley on four teams.
Ball and Gray were two former football greats who played with us.

Eddie Gray smiled and laughed all day, was helpful to every player, realising we were all between limited and poor.
He said it was as big a treat for him to play as us (not true) but left everyone singing his praises. Still had a wand of a left foot.
Alan Ball whinged, moaned and swore at everyone all day, never cracked a smile and left most of us wanting to chin him. Horrible little man.

Great day, obviously no crowd (thank God), but crowd noise piped through sound system. Used changing rooms and old bath. The pitch felt massive, but I was already a lard **** by then!
