How does Paddy leaving affect our summer transfer plans?

Pretty clear, as a high earner, he wasn't going to stay/be offered a new deal. So (reported) £25k week off the books.

Assume Boro have factored this in for their summer transfer kitty, but does it have any immediate effect on where we stand with FFP etc?

I think it's probably been expected for a long while, the club will 100% have tried to sell him before his contract ran out but there were obviously no takers.

I agree with Nero that it makes available funds for Ayling.

Paddy seems to play nearly as many games for NI as us, but we pay his wages. No such issue with Ayling.

Well I don't think he was part of our plans for next season, so I don't think this has come as a surprise. I've not heard talk of a new contract even being offered.

Undoubtedly it frees up a good chunk of wages

It's probably been taken into account during the last 6 months. I'd say even as long ago as last summer.

I guess it frees up 25k a week. That's a fair chunk of wages to sign a players or give current players improved contracts. That or just save a few quid.

We are pretty stacked at CB. We could arguably have 4 very good ones fit and ready for the start of next season. To think 2 of them wont even start.

Fullbacks are Smith / Ayling (👀) and Engel / Bangura / Thomas (👀) . I don't think much needs doing at the back.

So I'm not really sure Mcnair needs 'replacing'. We are going to need arguably 2 CMs. Hackney dependent. Someone decent on the LW and another CF.

It's not a massive rebuild. That said lose Forss / Mcgree and Hackney and you'd need a few more.

Decent player but if his wages are to be believed he doesn’t warrant an extension.

We need players in a fair few positions but CM, creative ten and a left side attacking player are a must.

Big season for Jones. He either is or he isn’t. If he isn’t then a right side attacker too.

We tried to sell him last summer. Luton were interested at one point but wouldn't meet his wage demands.

All Depends what we actually offered him to renew as that will be the figure in the budget, if we even did that. Wouldn’t have been anywhere near his current wage if we did though. Possibly half.

Why is it a big season for Jones? I mean it's a big season for everyone next year but why especially Jones? He's got nothing to prove.
