I was bribed by a £20 hmv voucher to go to Nat West.

My nephew is 15 and does not have a bank. Any decent incentives at the moment?

Usually its when you get your first job/apprenticeship or start University you get a free rail card probably Amazon Gift card nowadays. At 15 it might not apply. I got £3 in cash about £15 today for getting some answers right in a competition set by the bank. I had to open a current account with them at 16/17 to get the cash.

I joined "the Penny Bank" with my nan who took me to open my first account - with a paybook written in pen and stamped by the cashire.

refer him to nationwide, he gets £100, you get £100. If you don’t already bank with nationwide, PM me and I’ll invite you, same deal, that way you actually make £200. Can do it up to 6 times a year - I usually max it out.

I've had an account of some description with Yorkshire for nearly 50 years, but now they will shortly become Virgin Money.
It's a small result for me because I can now have a branch in Southampton instead of 300 miles away

Are they turning them all into Virgin? I'm with Clydesdale from my days in Aberdeen and they've said nothing.

When are they becoming VM? Hadn’t heard that.

Yorkshire penny bank 1979 Norton high st. Banks gone now, but still with them the daughter did become a chartered banker with the Yorkshire bank.

I was with Lloyd's because all my family was- come the 2008 crash, I decided to look for a more ethical bank and finally decided on Nationwide, been more than happy with them since I joined in 2008.

VM bought the UK side of the Australian group that owned them.

Can see someone else has already corrected, but virgin money got bought by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank, and as VM is seen as the far stronger brand, they are integrating themselves into it gradually. Stores are going through a rebrand process and any that are either poor performing or have another store within a set range are being closed.

believe the Australian VM is a seperate franchise, of which there are hundreds globally, many independent owned and jusy using the virgin branding.

Clydesdale and Yorkshire were owned by an Australian / New Zealand banking group. They must have divested themselves of them before the VM deal.

Barclays mid 70’s,I was going to join the Yorkshire but my dad was with them and as his initials were the same as mine he was worried they may mix the accounts up!
