How annoyingly good was Sam Morsy yesterday

First time he played against us last season I thought he looked good but not amazing. Since then, the snippets I've seen of him and Swansea away he looks classy, calm and strong. We really could have done with him yesterday.
He came back after his unsuccessful loan spell at Hibernian and had a stinker in an fa cup game. He was pretty much written off after that.

I can remember Woodgate was really talking him up when he did a speakers event with Pulis, saying that he wishes he was as good at that age. I bet Woodgate wishes he was still here now (Wood, not Pulis).

Morsy should’ve been sent off for his challenge on Rogers in the first minute, referee let them kick our players to bits.

The number 12 should’ve gone as well for his so called tackles on Crooks, they were more like an assault.

I didn’t see anything special about Ipswich yesterday, dirty bunch of cloggers that got away with all kinds, two shots on target and two goals, one heavily deflected too

A bog standard midfielder - he keeps it simple, keeps the ball moving to the wide players. You can see why Ipswich are doing well, they are just a well organised side with good team spirit and players who can score. I still think they will fall away in the second half of the season

He’s just a journeyman who uses his experience to be effective.

If Ipswich go up they will be looking at record low points without massive investment.

Personally not one for stats, but to prove a point about how good he was yesterday. He was third in all passing related stats. The first and second were dael and Clarke, but their passes never crossed the half way line and in our system our defenders will always make up a lot of passes.

The difference was he linked play. He was tenacious, yeah a bit naughty but I wouldn't have minded some of that with us yesterday as we were feckless. Most importantly was his quick play to the left. Don't the guys name but the goal scorer.

He’s effective and we could have done with him yesterday, but he never really stood out for us. Iirc most of his games for us were behind closed doors, might have benefited from feeding off the crowd. Glad we have Hackney over him, he’s a big miss at the moment. Carrick’s very cagey as usual about his injury, which is a concern to me.

He was effective though allowed to continue with persistent fouling far too long by a lenient ref. I didn't see anything creative from him most his passing was short and rarely forward. When he played for us he always seemed to pick up an early yellow. I wouldn't want him back, we have better but no denying he did a job yesterday.

Should have been booked in first 5 minutes for horrible challenge on Rogers. Might have changed the game
Exactly this. Set the tone and the ref let them get away with too much. Horrible, niggly team but they outfought us and unsettled us effectively.

Thats going to happen in the championship time and time again. players like Greenwood rogers Barlaser are far too soft.

If anything yesterday showed us Greenwood, Rogers and Barlasser shouldn’t start together. Yesterday this was compounded by Crooks playing like he did early season. Not many options, but time for an academy lad to step up against Hull if the injury situation hasn’t improved.

Ipswich controlled the match and he was pulling the strings.
He is perfect for them. They are a supremely well organised and totally committed, focused group of unremarkable but highly effective players.
I don’t begrudge him, their team, their manager or their fans.

We are obviously hit by injury, but regardless were terrible yesterday.
Carrick included.

He bossed the midfield. He always seemed to be where he needed to be. Good tackling, classy touch. I mean we made it easy for him but I didn't think much of him when he was at the boro.
Easily one of the biggest transfer mistakes made by the club in recent memory to sell Morsy. Wanted to be here, was consistent in a fairly mediocre Boro side and the manager who sold him was gone two months later. Looks every bit the top Championship midfielder he could’ve been for Boro with a bit more patience from the hierarchy at the time.

Morsey was sold to fund Payero if I remember correctly. There were rumours about his attitude to covid reasons.

The general impression on here was he was a lower Championship defensive midfielder with zero creativity. I disagreed with that assessment.

I was disappointed when he was sold, because he was the sort of player we didn't have and was a reliable defensive midfielder. He did a very good job at Wigan (was their player of the year).
