I do myself for the good of the game.I hope you are right but Brighton didn’t manage to actually win the Cup of course albeit went very close, top players do step up for the big games.
But I do hope you are right and that a middling club does pop up with a good blend and win something
Funny one Wigan. They had big financial problems when they were last relegated from the championship. Then got taken over by the current fella, got promoted and then financial problems started again and got relegated. Not sure what 'fit and proper' checks he went through, but obviously not thorough enough and this was only about two years ago. Again, its the fans who suffer.
I’ll take it back then as maybe I’m just bitter
I stand by every word with Pompey though it’s criminal they kept that cup win.
Good point, Wigan is rugby league like Leeds.People go on about Leeds being a Rugby League city, but Wigan is the very epitome of that
Edit : even though Wigan isn't a City ! ..... you know what I mean !
It was absolutely mind boggling how they were operating. The nearly went bust a few seasons back but then bizarrely decided to throw a lot of money (which is clear now they didn't have), on getting promoted. Now if thats what new owners decide to do then thats up to them, but surely a couple of consolidation seasons wouldn't have went a miss? Quite a few of their fans where giving it the 'bigg'un' on their board at the time, clearly couldn't see the wood for the trees. I hope they don't go pop, but the owners would only have themselves to blame if they did.A lot of the problems were caused by just how much he spent to get them promoted, apparently.
Very similar to Bury in that regard.
I don't mean to be pedantic, but....I do myself for the good of the game.
Me too. I know lots of people from the close surrounding towns too, all United. Not really. Like us they had a local fan with a lot of money they were willing to spend. They had the PL money but they were punching well above their weight thanks to Whelan. The town/fanbase is too small to sustain success without a wealthy backer.
They don't get anywhere near the crowds we do. It's a poor area and their main priority, by far, is rugby league. I know quite a few people in Wigan and not a single one of them supports the football team. They are all rugby fans or Man Utd fans if they are into football.
??I don't mean to be pedantic, but....
