HMRC Lodge Wigan Athletic Wind Up Order

I’ve got a few mates from wigan they are fed up completely with their owner, feel really sorry for them as unlike when Derby were in the sh1t they know the blames with the owners they aren’t trying to claim vendettas by the FA or any other b0llocks like the Derby fans were.

Still dodgy how they amassed that cup winning side.

See also Portsmouth.
Not really. Like us they had a local fan with a lot of money they were willing to spend. They had the PL money but they were punching well above their weight thanks to Whelan. The town/fanbase is too small to sustain success without a wealthy backer.

They don't get anywhere near the crowds we do. It's a poor area and their main priority, by far, is rugby league. I know quite a few people in Wigan and not a single one of them supports the football team. They are all rugby fans or Man Utd fans if they are into football.

I’ll take it back then as maybe I’m just bitter

I stand by every word with Pompey though it’s criminal they kept that cup win.

Why? The only chance us little clubs has of winning anything is if we hoy a load of cash at it. Good luck to them I say. Better to reserve your ire for the cartel at the top who ensured that for other teams to win it they have to bankrupt themselves.

To be fair pompey fans had to live with a decade of massive decline to pay for that win. Since hitting rock bottom, their move back up has been very very slow, 14 years since top flight, 10 years in the bottom two tiers. For a club that size it's a shocking state of affairs. Good mate is a pompey fan, and after a lifetime of it, he kinda gave up. Realised that an FA cup win is as good as it will ever get and that FUBARed the club.

I think these days that trophy wins are meaningless, nothing to do with building and blending a squad like it used to even for well financed clubs, just about how rich your owners are.

It is what it is.

Our win and pompeys win were 15-20 years ago…the landscape has changed since then
I don't agree with Holgate's post.

No I said ‘these days’, when we did it you still had a chance with a few signings, some journeymen and a couple of youngster.

Its sealed up these days with no chance for the likes of us unless we get some state ownership.
I disagree with that mate and still feel there is an opportunity for well blended clubs.

Edit: Brighton nearly proved that this season.

I hope you are right but Brighton didn’t manage to actually win the Cup of course albeit went very close, top players do step up for the big games.

But I do hope you are right and that a middling club does pop up with a good blend and win something 👍
