Hi Ren

I was at the Lebock gig in Newcastle so had to wait til I got home to watch it, brilliant stuff. I really wish hi ren was on an album though!

Went in a total different direction to how I expected it

nice, i didn't buy any of his physical merch.

I think i clocked onto him in Dec 22, around the time of Hi Ren hit Youtube and first started making waves.

He's been at the top of my most played artists on music provider since then

This is copied and pasted from a fan who started to summarize the twitch stream and YouTube live chat from Kujo Beatdown. It got insanely long. So here is a short novel for you. 😅😆

TWITCH 9/5/

Symbolism in Kujo Beatdown:
- There is a “glitch” where Ren and Kujo switch places and Ren is tied up. It represents how both parties feel like the victim in any kind of dispute like this. It’s never as black and white as good vs evil. The flash back and forth represents that perspective.
- Pig Man represent the Sick Boi album and is also the personification of greed in the world.
- The choir gets massacred. The whole thing originated with the sample dispute over the Bulgarian choir so he wanted them to be represented. He wants to know if the choir/performers actually get any of the money or does it all go to the sample owner/publishing company? A big problem with the electoral property ownership structure that the actual performers see very little or none of the earnings. He would love to go to Bulgaria and work with the choir for the remake of Sick Boi and do something from scratch so everybody could be paid fairly cut out the middleman. Not sure if there is enough time for that.
- The beginning is a nod to Hi Ren with the two voices talking to each other. The chair is a nod to Money Game. The location and choir are nods to Sick Boi. There are also MG3 and Sick Boi references in the lyrics.

Sick Boi:
- The revamped version comes out on the anniversary of the Sick Boi album October 13. He is re-releasing a special edition revised Sick Boi album. He might put Kujo Beathdown down on it. It will have a few bonus tracks. It may include the next track he’s releasing in 2 weeks.
- The song getting taken down is almost like part of the art of it now. Being deleted because of greed and complications with legality is almost part of the song story. Which is sick in a weird way. Of course he was ***ed off, it screwed up stream counts and cost an arm and a leg for legal expense. So it goes. All he can do at this point try to reframe it positively in his mind and this is how he does it. That this is part of the story of it now. It’s an interesting journey. The legend of Sick Boi.
- He doesn’t want to have to make a Kujo beat down part two. He just wants to move on and make music.

Upcoming:
- Ren has a really beautiful song coming out in a 2 weeks dedicated to his sister. It’s gonna be a real special one. He wanted to write something more positive and uplifting but around the same topic as KBD. Kind like the dark and the light, yin yang.
- Working on stuff with the Skinner brothers. Sick boy and soul boy. Made some good stuff, some of the coolest stuff he worked on in a collaborative sense. He loves it because it’s what he grew up with, it’s just him and so British. Coming at some point.
- Something potentially cooking with Imagine Dragons. We’ll see. Potentially. Who knows.
- He’s pushing for a reunion of the big push. But the ball is in their court. Not everybody has the same drive and passion.
- He has considered doing some stuff with metal. Not like purist metal but like Rage Against The Machine style.
- Sick Boi clothing brand had to be pushed back a little bit because he’s been so particular, wanting everything to be perfect. They got drops of three collections planned so far. Brigita has been amazing at bringing his ideas to life and Josh been very involved too. It will be unisex an affordable price range.
- Josh is also starting his own merch line with his “I’m just the cook“ shirt. Everyone should DM Ren to request it. If people buy enough, Josh can get out of there. www.renmakesmedoit.co.uk But Ren says he needs to keep Josh for slave labor. Josh can’t leave because he’s the glue and he’s also a great cook. Josh will also accept a sock for freedom. #FreeSocks4Josh

Connections:
- Got to meet Russell Crowe. He gave Ren some really thoughtful life advice on how much the industry will try to take from you and how much you have to stay true to yourself and your own integrity and not compromise. Also gave Ren helpful advice on speaking about things you’re passionate about with composure and conviction, not choking up. Russell was a proper nice man. It was a really wholesome moment.
- Spoke to Harry Mack backstage at Boomtown for a bit. They’re planning to do something when Ren moves to LA, maybe a little busking type thing.

Health:
- He’s been slacking on the gym since he’s been home because he’s been so busy. He was in better shape in Calgary.
- Feeling a lot healthier and more with. Still on lots of medication and treating some things.

YOUTUBE LIVE CHAT 9/5/24

Next song is in two weeks.
- He felt like he needed to put out something more uplifting and positive because this whole situation is a bit ****ed.
- This song is dedicated to his sister. She is one of the purest, most free spirited, inspiring people. Keeps him grounded. She’s also a sick singer.

Slaughterhouse Album:
- Excited and really proud of how it’s shaping up. Feels like his most accomplished so far. Can’t wait for us to hear it. Been able to really zone in on the songs since he’s not in treatment anymore.
- This album is a lot more him. Sick Boi was fun, but it was intentionally all one flavor. This album is a bunch of flavors, super eclectic.
- The first track has more of a Sick Boi feel. It’s pretty straight hip-hop, but it’s one of only two hip-hop songs on the album.
- The rest is more guitar and singing. A lot of Fruciante inspiration. He fell in love with his electric guitar again.
- It has his favorite guitar solo he’s ever written. Has some insane string arrangements and banging features.
- Won’t be out for a while because he’s planning to do a single by single drop like he did for Sick Boi.
- Drops will start coming in thick and fast. First single drops next month then a single every two or three weeks until he’s released all his favorites, however long that takes. Then will release the rest all at once. It’s 18 tracks so far.
- Two tracks with chinchilla on Slaughterhouse, a ballad and a straight up banger. Going in with the string section tomorrow (Friday) to record. Then recording the vocals next week.
- 100% produced by him with no samples. Which will probably be the case going forward. Learned his lesson. (I think those as referring to Slaughterhouse and not Kujo Beatdown.)

Upcoming:
- Will be in the UK until he finishes this album.
- After Slaughterhouse is demos three. Rock album is still brewing too. Then Mongolian throat singing death core folk album. Also has some D&B cooking.
- Filming next installment of the tales at the end of this month. And it’s a crazy one. It’s a three-part thing and it will not be on Slaughterhouse album. Nice to have a bit of production budget to play around with.
- Pretty cool collaborations brewing.
- May or may not be in talks with Sublime. Let’s just see where it leads
- Amazing US hip-hop artists have reached out. Thinking of cooking something with Token and an unnamed band that produces a lot of soundtracks for anime shows.
- Might do collaboration with Skyler (artist he shared on Instagram recently.
- Dream collab would be Frusciante

Health:
- Treatment is going good. He’s still taking medication every day, but doesn’t have to go into clinic.
- Feeling a lot stronger and better.
- Still treating lime co-infections. Which is a long process. Like a year of antibiotics. So it doesn’t always feel the best but it’s going good.
- Will hopefully be able to introduce more things into his diet.

Legal situation:
- Doing all right, just wants to put all of this behind him and put out new music.
- No sample and Kujo Beatdown. He produced everything himself. Filmed by Sam.
- Most positive outcome from all this would be Beatstars changing their infrastructure.
- He spoke to the CEO of Beatstars on the phone after the video and he seemed pretty cool. So hopefully something positive comes out of all this. He’d love to talk them on a podcast or something.
- If people keep re-sharing the original Sick Boi it’s nothing to do with him. He doesn’t encourage it or discourage it. The song has gone now in terms of ownership until he remakes it.
- This is not a publicity stunt. He’s not interested in milking this and just wants it to be over.

I don't think there can be much doubt, this guy is a talent who will IMO be spoken of in the same terms as Bowie or Prince.

Genius.

I hope I get chance to see him performing live.

Agree completely he is a genius, I think the route of staying independent and not wanting to be associated or controlled by a record label means he won’t get the global recognition he really deserves but can’t help but admire his stance.

He will be playing in Brighton October ish when launches his new clothing line which will be a chance to see him perform live.

This is amazing(long watch)

His statement between the first two parts is something he articulated so well. The way he has impacted me since first watched hi Ren and his approach to life has actually made me a better person.

That’s a great video.

And, I really enjoyed the way he spoke about those who are dogmatic …. On either side of any spectrum.
I’ve taken extreme stances in the past and am trying to move away from that.
The way he spoke reminded me of why I was doing it. Very helpful.

He is a creative, caring, kind young man - If I can get close to that (replace ‘old’ with young tho 😂) I’ll be happier.

Apparently he's going to be on the Sky Arts Awards at 9pm tonight on freeview channel 36
