Hayden Hackney

I like the simplicity of his game he releases the ball quickly with the right pass instead of overplaying with the ball something that looks easy but really isn't. That was very much a Carricks way of playing football. He still got lots to learn but his composure on the ball for someone so young is terrific

I wonder if we’ll see any more of the “kids” given a run before Xmas.
MC might look at a few of them during the World Cup friendlies. There will be a number of them chomping at the bit for first team minutes and experience. Like Hayden, they have the perfect mentor in the new head coach. It’s all about listening, concentrating and application.

His form, has made the signings of Mowatt and Luongo look ridiculous...

Same for Akpom, his turn around has basically made Hoppe's signing seem such a waste of money, any game time that lad gets could have went to Finch/Kavanagh really.

You don't know at the time though. Mowatt could have came and been brilliant, Hoppe could have scored and got a run of games and scored and done well, hasn't turned out that way so hindsight is wonderful.

I think they will be the first to be changed out in January

Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage from Man Utd?

The jury’s out for me on Hayden Hackney - I didn’t think he stood out , gave away a very rash foul and yellow card early on. Would need to see him over a longer period. Happy to be proven wrong as there are a few people saying the same about him but I couldn’t see it myself.

I think he compliments Howson well, too often this season Howson was left isolated in midfield when Crooks, Riley or the wing backs lost the ball. Should flourish under Carrick, as similar in style. Needs to stop giving away daft free kicks and picking up silly yellow cards. Like what I see so far but shouldn't place too much expectation on his young shoulders just yet.

I think the early yellow card was both a little harsh from the ref and a little silly from Hackney. But after that he was exemplary. I was watching him closely after that card as some players will "play safe" after an early card but he was showing for the ball, moving into space and driving forward when opportunity presented, I don't think he put a foot wrong after that early moment, worked well in tandem with Johnny H. They seem to be forming a solid understanding. I thought he did really well perhaps over the top to call him MOTM but certainly one of three standouts with Akpom and Lenihan.

I've read time and again that Howson isn't mobile enough, which is nonsense really.

Both he and Hackney got about the pitch really well.

I think the bigger issue was when he was alongside Mowatt and Crooks and collectively they were as mobile as the ship which blocked the Suez.

Hackney solves some of that.
He does, but Howson wasn't part of the problem at all, he covers more ground than most players over 90 odd minutes.
