It does seem rare.
But I'm glad he's backed himself. He is developing well and it would have been a shame if he'd committed to Scotland so early in his career.

Neither to same level either. Rice didn't play for England U21s and Giggs didn't play for Wales U16s

I thought he had an excellent debut in the Brentford FA Cup defeat in 2021 and was surprised he was loaned to lowly Scunthorpe later on tbh. He has developed into a must start for the first team and hopefully he can keep on improving. I suspect Carrick will have had a chat with Carsley, if not Sir Gareth himself. Great news for Hackney

Must have had a word with Sir Gareth? England squad discussion yesterday bemoaned that the likes of Henderson and Phillips were getting in the squad, but others talked of the lack of options (Declan Rice excepted), so perhaps Hackney sees progression in that sort of role. We'll struggle to hold on to him next summer if he continues this progress and we don't go up. His goal the other week against Huddersfield was a bit special, hope he has the confidence to do that more this season.
