Have you ever turned a foreigner into a Boro fan

Wasn't there a Boro fan on here who went to China as a English teacher and taught his pupils English, partly through Boro songs.:D

Watched Sunderland vs Boro in a pub in Berlin; there was an elderly german-chinese chap in there watching the match. Go him cheering for the Boro.

Mind you, there was probably about 12 boro fans in there and no Mackems, so he didn't have much choice.

Yes I have. First went to Santorini in 2004 and met a lad whose knowledge of all football was excellent. We struck up a friendship that has lasted until this day. When I first went, he supported the Geordies but he is now a big Boro fan.

He moved to England a few years ago after he got married to his wife, Nicola. A few months ago, Alex Ferguson was in the restaurant he works at in Sheffield and he was talking to him about the Boro's great games against them.

He now has 2 favourite teams, Juventus and the Boro and I've adopted Juve as my second team.

Just in case he reads this, Forza Boro and Juve, my mate, Dario.

The summer of 2004 I worked on a Greek holiday island.
The pub I worked in, the managers where P.AO.K fans, but because I wore my Boro shirts on a regular basis, they started to take an interest.
Plus at the time we had some great players.

PAOK are my favourite Greek team, just a pity they play in black and white stripes.

Camp America.. gave the kids boro shirts and told them they were boro fans and they couldn’t choose another team because that’s how it works.

Also a fair few Americans I move met talking about football and they’ve said they support an English team.. just because.

I’ve told them they can’t and need an English person to give them a team to support or allow them to support a team. Invite only masons type thing..

Put a few shirts and scarves in the bin! Obviously with a shirt swap. Like an amnesty.

Yes my wife. She’s German. She’s been to a few games at home.

Her first game, she found it hilarious that a young boy of around 7-8 was giving the ref a foul mouthed hard time 😅

Yep. A lass I work with is from Reggio Calabria, and is a big Reggina fan. She lives in Hertfordshire though and her and her son love football but he was interested in Man City. Managed to get her invested in last seasons promotion run, which coincided with Regginas promotion charge in Serie B, and now she loved the Boroooo, and I'll be bringing her up to the Riverside at some point next season.

Meanwhile Reggina, with Pippo Inzaghi as their manager, also failed in the play offs and have been demoted to the 4th level due to financial irregularities. Italian football eh.

Still working on it here in Chicago but the lack of televised games makes it difficult for it to stick (and a 9am kick off makes it less appealing for people to come round and watch with a few beers). One neighbor seems all in but I still can't stop him referring to "the Borrow" so I still have some work to do!

Nope but I did turn a casual Sunderland supporter our way.
By that I meant he wasn't to keen on Football but because of family he loved his cheesy chips. My infectious talking about Ishmael Miller got him hooked on Boro 🤣

Yep met a group of Americans in Chaing Mai in 2004. Befriended them and kept in touch with two in particular. Jon and Sam. Both from Sacramento, we made an agreement to follow each others club so I follow Sacramento Kings and Jon follows Boro. Jon’s now visited the Riverside three times and been to Portman Road with me for an away game. He’s even been in the Gazette.

My wife is from Northumberland, and I got her following (loosely...) the Boro. Her family all check the Boro scores before the Jawdees now too. Does that count? It's essentially a different country, what with the language barrier and all...
