Hats off to Red Faction for their display

Totally agree with this. I love the RF displays, as does Junior Smoggy.
Showing our north east neighbours (NOT rivals, definately not a local derby), what it's all about to support the boro and in front of a TV audience.
Bravo.
Also had no idea there were fireworks. Was that RF as well or the TV company?
Red Faction organised the fireworks nothing to do with TV or the club

Some posters unfortunately need stronger glasses - its seems fairly clear to me the display is a rising sun (not stripes).

The words are basically saying the South Stand is becoming the New Holgate, which it is, isn't it?

Displays that use angles (opposed to straight lines) are more difficult, but they got it right.

Maybe I’m being utterly stupid, and I’ll be honest it wouldn’t be the first time, but I can’t figure out the link between Middlesbrough and the Japanese rising sun flag, hopefully someone with a few more brain cells than me can just quickly explain the context, be glad to get behind it but my understanding needs a bit of help with this one!

This is a fantastic photo! Would have been screensaver worthy back in the day!

I'm guessing it's the Japanese red army flag.
Has red army in the name and they were militant communists, much like red faction.

I think it is used by the Japanese Navy.
The flag is actually banned by FIFA due to its association with WW2. To a lot of Asian countries it has similar connotations of the swastika.

So, it was nothing to do with supporting the team or club? More of a self appreciation display?

I thought it was excellent but the flames and fireworks finished it off nicely. I love sending photos of the displays to my Mackem and Geordie mates and point out they are not funded by the club.

i've ovly just clicked the sun rising japanese flag bit, live I thought why are they doing red & white mackem stripes, I'm pretty sure 99% of the audience thought the same. Perhaps the RF need to dumb down the messaging a bit, kinda defeats the object if everyone needs an explanation of what it means, but doth of the cap for their efforts

You will also notice that the font used on the banner is a Japanese type font. It is also a sun rising hence the holgate end arising.
I thought it was brilliant and well done to RF 👍
Was well coordinated with the football club and tweltfth man leaving flags out on seats for the North Stand = perhaps the new Holgate that was rising.
Hats off to everyone involved.

(Sunderland also used diagonal red and white stripes for their Tifo display when they hosted Boro earlier in the season).

More of a self appreciation? What exactly do you mean mate? It's just a play on words from a song that is sung week in week out.
Absolutely nothing to do with self appreciation.
I can't believe you are trying to knock them after a display like that.
I know first hand how much time, effort and above all money ( generally their own money ) goes into these displays. At least give them the credit they deserve.
