Radicalisation from right wing media poses as big a threat as any in this post truth world.
Indeed it does, my friend. The Russians etc have played a blinder in this one. During Trump's campaign most significantly, before he won the Presidency. I don't believe they expected him to win the race for the WH and just wanted to create chaos in general within American politics and unity .. they got far, far more than what they wanted, and must be laughing their t1ts off currently, at the state of affairs there and both here, too.
They learned how to weaponise information in a better way than anyone else and USA were caught very far behind in this regard. There should have been more adequate resources in place within the Intelligence Community both there and here expecting this yet we just sat back and let it all happen. It still is happening, and I am not sure how it can be stopped. Just banning Trump from Twitter and other social media platforms aren't going to cure the problem.
Unfortunately, there are millions and millions who believe anything they read and allow themselves to become so angry by a bunch of lies, leading to where we are now. No one appears to question the source of anything anymore, and folk are divided more than we've ever known it as a result. The other day, I was reading a thread on my Facebook home page and someone I know disagreed with a lad I know who is a Scientist about the threat of Covid and it being a real problem. It ended with the other guy threatening to go round to his house and 'break your f&ck1ng jaw' ... wonderful, eh??
It's not just about an assault on democracy as we know it etc either, there are the likes of the pandemic where we're seeing a lot of absolute nonsense posted online creating doubt among the public, convinced we're all being controlled or being injected with microchips, for example.
I noticed earlier today, every cash machine in my area. someone has written,"Covid is a lie" in marker on each one. What absolute crazy times to be in.
