Has there ever been a full back who is good going forward.....

Pog was a spud.

Yeah, and he was a bit of a d*ck when we went down acting like he was above it all and he really wasn’t.

I hated that classic “Pogatez/Chuck Norris” thread on the old fmttm board c. 2006. Sorry, but I never really took to him and FQ was far superior.

Trent Alexander Arnold seems to be following in the tradition.

But is he really or it just a common misperception that full backs can’t (or very rarely) be good at both?

GNev was never very widely praised for his attacking ability and hardly ever scored. As soon as full backs start getting on the scoresheet regularly, they usually start getting heavy criticism for defensive ability.

Ashley Cole was class going forward. He played in the days when wide players played a lot wider, and fullbacks didn't tend to attack the box so much. He did, especially for arsenal.
Stuart Pearce was another who was a brilliant attacking fullback but was great in defence. Pearce was old school.

Craggs was as good a right back as I have ever seen play. Big fan of Quedrue too. Both good at either end of the pitch. Gary Neville wasn't known for his goals, but the way he worked with Beckham was key to Man Utd's attacking play.

John Craggs was an uncompromising brick built defender who could bomb on and supplement the attacking threat down the right. And for me our best ever right back and to call him a right back and not a wing back speaks for itself.

Ivanovic when he was at Chelsea when he played RB was good going forwards and would regularly chip in with goals. And he was excellent defensively.
