Hartlepool

I’m off about 3 with some pals for a few drinks and food before the game. I don’t know Hartlepool at all. Any decent spots for food/beer?

Plenty of places to eat at the Marina and a couple of Bars, not sure how early they open mind.

The Nursery Inn on Hart Lane would be my choice for a pint first. No idea about the food side, I'd probably take a couple of decent pies and have them with my pints.

A traditional pub, not many about these days.

Cameron's have a tap house with all the beers / ipa you could wish for ( the lager and esp the pilsner are great ) . You could park there no problem.
Hops and Cheese is great , and if your around there , then No 8 and The Owl are nearby ( bit baker street ish )
Food wise the town centre isn't great, almost all curry houses. Only other option would be Sambuccas ( uno Memento type ).
Food wise the Marina is better , and loads of bars , but be careful with parking charges and it's a 15 min walk to the ground

Scarborough Street, the Owl. The stouts are fantastic and they do good food. Copper tables too which I found a nice touch :)

The Causeway on Stranton Green (just past the Camerons' brewery). One of the few pubs still serving hand pulled Strongarm. A decent, old fashioned pub. Food-wise not so great.

Last time we played york it was streamed on their youtube channel. They played Sheff Wed the other day and only the highlights are on, so I suspect not.

When I was student and didn't have a car sometimes I would buy a Cleveland Transit Bus Weekend Rover ticket. Unlimited travel on CT buses. If Boro were away and Pools were at home I would jump on a bus and go to Hartlepool and take in a game. This is when it was £10 to stand in todays money to go to a Hartlepool game and the bus pass was probably £6 in todays money.

Hartlepool fascinated me a bit because pychologically it felt a long way from the rest of Teesside, but when you go there it felt like a mini Middlesbrough even the locals spoke more like people from Middlesbrough then say Tyneside or Wearside or County Durham.

Cameron's do IPA. Dear god what is the world coming to. IPA for Lager drinkers who think they are beer drinkers. Absolute bathwater. Never had good one yet.

Heavy rain and winds expected for the game unfortunately.
Absolutely belting down earlier so much so I was soaked to the skin walking 5 yards. Like a drowned rat. Gave up on trying to walk to game 15 minutes away. In Wetherspoons and Cameron's has gone off. Getting beat 2-0 how worse can it get. 20:33 train back to Redcar for a pint of Magnet I think.
