Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo has been given a suspended five-month ban by the Football Association after admitting 375 breaches of betting rules.

The 28-year-old's ban is suspended until the end of 2024-25. Ivan Toney must be livid reading this.

No I heard Toney had £10K on it only being suspended 😉
 
Guessing he didn’t bet on matches his team was involved in / in his league / maybe not even in the country and admitted it immediately.

Just a guess though.
 
Anyone - What are the rules on betting?

If he was betting on football in the English Leagues, he should be banned in my opinion.

He seems to like a bet too - 375 bets in 3 years.

It’s all a little unclear - I’m reading the reasons for the punishment will be available in ‘due course’.

It certainly needs an explanation - these players have contacts/friends playing at all levels. It seems absurd to suggest the key reason may be that he didn’t bet on his own team.
Toney’s lawyers will be waiting with interest…..
 
I wonder if he shopped himself rather than got reported by someone else as part of an effort to stop himself gambling anymore. Hence the leniency.

Agree. Most of the bets were for minimal stakes, a couple of quid here and there. Maybe that is why it was a suspended sentence, taking it all into context. He clearly wasn't trying to make a load of money out of it!
