Hardest Boro player of all time

Souness was before my time but you can tell even watching his pundit roles now….he’s a tough b****d!

Festa from my lifetime though. He is definitely the quiet bloke who pops up from nowhere in a situation and batters absolutely everyone.

Souness had class which masked just what a destructive force he could be on the pitch, I’m surprised there’s no mention of Ian Baird as being hard, he’d mix it all day long, never backed out of a physical battle and if he was kicked would kick back harder.

I remember Boro v QPR. The ball was bouncing around the center spot and Souness and Stan Bowles both went for it. The noise as they met echoed around the ground. Both just got up and carried on. No fuss that’s what the hard men did.

I'll throw the name Brian Deane into the mix - remember him scaring the $hit out of Mark Hughes at Old Trafford just by standing up ( and towering over) him!

That said, the best all round player I've seen in a Boro shirt, Mr G. Souness, has to also be the hardest

100% Deano all day long
I used to love watching Deano at Ayresome Park, but he would spend most of his time suspended if he played today.

Trevor Putney and John Wark could stick one in there when required, and in more recent times it’s gotta be Poggy.

Since Poggy we haven’t really had one stand out hard b**tard, maybe time for Warnock to get Morsy to step up a few notches 😁

Juninho was nails. Hammered all the time, seldom let it affect him. Never backed down.

Aside from the obvious ones mentioned, a few other candidates

Nobby Stiles
Robbie Mustoe (in an understated, just got on with it way)
Lee Clattermole (not in the least bit understated)
Willie Wigham (you had to be pretty tough as a keeper in those days ... and he wasn't that big).

The most unassuming hard man you would ever see, Derek Stonehouse.
Very long time ago but the poster did say "of all time".

Not heard that before, but I can understand it. He seemed very strong mentally Rippers and had no problem standing up for himself.

Might well have not been physically the strongest but he had huge spirit. One of my all time favourite players - skin 'em Rippers!
Skin em rippers used to love that from the crowd and he did most of the time

Based on who he was married to at the time, it has to be Christian Karembeu surely? If you catch my drift

🚕 😏
