El Guapo nailed it for me.
I have no truck with Carney or Scott, I think they are both knowledgeable pundits. I can’t stand, in fact understand Jamie Carragher who i think is as annoying as it gets. I can’t stand Jacqui Oatleys voice as a commentator, it grates on me as does Jonathan Pearce.
Am I only ok to dislike the male ones as I identify as a man (sorry if that offends any readers, but I do have a certificate to prove it)
People are far too quick to jump at things without bothering to discuss the context of what was said and why it was used. We all say common or garden everyday language that we have grown up with as custom and practice, the norm if you will.
In some cases it might be that it offends, in other cases it might irk and in some cases people with a chip on their shoulder may want to make a mountain out of a molehill (no offence to moles intended). The media are occasionally too quick to cancel certain words, groups, behaviours for fear of loss of audience or fear of litigation. Sky seem to think it not gross misconduct to spit at a young family, but to air doubts surrounding the pandemic are a heinous crime. Freedom of speech (while to a degree limited to reasonable restriction) is allowed, Le Tiss broke no laws and was sacked, Carragher carried out an assault and was merely suspended
I am all for men, women, different ethnic backgrounds, gender, disabilities getting roles because they deserve them, because they are the best in their field at the time. Positive discrimination such as likely happens in some cases for so called ‘quota’ reasons is offensive in my view as it is discriminatory in itself. We should all be equal and treated on our individual merits, not because I is white or someone has a tendency to wear flowery clothing and likes too listen to the communards or because they have a different complexion to Alan Shearer or enjoyed playing with Barbie or action man as a kid.
Souness was absolutely fine and lawful in his comments. I do not believe he was being disrespectful, those who wield the power though, what gives them the right to be judge and Jury? How qualified are they? Souness’s words like any of us on here are open to interpretation, but I find it amazing how quick individuals from so called minority groups are to jump on nonsense like this. It is seemingly ok for a woman to refer to to men pushing and shoving each other as handbags? I recall one female commentator saying just that, what if one of the players were gay, is that ok because she is a woman?
Either stuff is lawful or it isn’t. If it isn’t then let it go or change the law.
Human beings are far too interested in wanting to be seen as taking the moral high ground that they forget their own personal flaws, we all have them and need to There are times when we need to stop being offended for the sake of it and all pangender up
