Good old Manics

For me the first two 3 albums were absolutely amazing, and their whole image and ethos was one that appealed to a teenage me. Everything Must Go signalled the start of the downfall for me, and I suspect some other fans from the early days, although Journal for Plagued Lovers was a welcome return to form (all songs written by Richey though).

That's not to say I haven't liked the odd song from the other albums, just that they're not as exciting and raw as when I first loved them, and they're still a cracking live band, and seem like decent fellas too.
The first 3 are easily their best work, but that’s the case with most bands and they lost a true genius when Richey disappeared. Although he had little to no contribution to their sound with his playing, Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth show just how much he drove and directed the band towards the darker and more aggressive side with his lyrical content.

Do these free online courses allow you to build up a network of other privileged students so that you can "pull up the ladder" and make it as difficult as possible for those who aren't "one of us" to be successful? Do they also give you a certificate readily accepted by employers as proof of your skills ?

One of the answers on Only Connect last night was that 20 Prime Ministers have come from Eton. I'm sure that's just coincidence, and someone who watched a few Youtube videos could be equally as successful.

Some kids are having to do their homework on their parents phone, as they don't have the luxury of a laptop and broadband connection to do the minimum homework set by the school, let alone educate themselves with a youtube video on top of that.

Next you'll be telling us to "get on your bike" a la Norman Tebbit.
You don't need to have certificates to prove your skills. A 10 minute interview will determine skill level. Ive met many with PhDs who are nice but dim, but equally met many skilled people who left school at 14. Go on keep thinking that other worlds are inpenetrable but they really aren't. Or maybe you want to be PM.

Everything must go and this is my truth were great albums. Generation terrorists had some decent songs on, but it sounds like it was recorded using two tin cans tied together with a piece of string. Album 4 is such a statement of defeat. They get looked down on because the masses got onboard with design for life. I did find it very depressing when I saw them a couple of years ago to find that the feather boas were replaced by fat blokes in jeans so I suppose I'm one to talk. Jumped the shark shortly after meeting with Castro.

That's good to know, all those graduate level jobs you wont even get an interview for, without a degree, must just be a mistake eh?

I'd hope my doctor, or the architect who designed my work place, or the engineer who designed the brakes on my car, has done more than watched a few youtube videos, or if not, they've had a 10 minute conversation with you and you've passed your judgement on them.

Ok here we go. For most, not all, a political party has little effect on their individual path through life. The power of the internet and self education in the modern age far outweighs the negative effect of any political party.
If you spend your life blaming 3rd parties for your circumstances then you will do it till you die. The days of Nye Bevan are long gone. Invest in yourself. You can educate yourself far better than a University education now.

As far as the manics go. They appeal to their target audience.

As a start - take a look at MIT free online courses on Youtube. No entrance exam needed. Even Nye Bevan would approve.
That's what they would like you to believe, it's how a party that represents 1% of the country manage to get a good chunk of the 99% to continue giving them the power they need to maintain the status quo
