Good old Manics

Nye Bevan, hero of mine. Is that Richey’s ever present available mike I can see on stage?

Much love for the Manics.

And to clarify, for me the bitter experiences the Tory party inflicted on me was the destruction of the lives my parents had creat for themselves over many years as a mining familly. Followed by Thatchers use of mass unemployment as a method of controlling the economy. To this day I hate them all 🖕

Ok here we go. For most, not all, a political party has little effect on their individual path through life. The power of the internet and self education in the modern age far outweighs the negative effect of any political party.
If you spend your life blaming 3rd parties for your circumstances then you will do it till you die. The days of Nye Bevan are long gone. Invest in yourself. You can educate yourself far better than a University education now.

As far as the manics go. They appeal to their target audience.

As a start - take a look at MIT free online courses on Youtube. No entrance exam needed. Even Nye Bevan would approve.

They were my favourite band for a long time and while I haven’t enjoyed their later albums as much as the first 5, they have mastered the art of evolving their sound without abandoning their core values. It was great to see them bag another number 1 album this week.

Do these free online courses allow you to build up a network of other privileged students so that you can "pull up the ladder" and make it as difficult as possible for those who aren't "one of us" to be successful? Do they also give you a certificate readily accepted by employers as proof of your skills ?

One of the answers on Only Connect last night was that 20 Prime Ministers have come from Eton. I'm sure that's just coincidence, and someone who watched a few Youtube videos could be equally as successful.

Some kids are having to do their homework on their parents phone, as they don't have the luxury of a laptop and broadband connection to do the minimum homework set by the school, let alone educate themselves with a youtube video on top of that.

Next you'll be telling us to "get on your bike" a la Norman Tebbit.

For me the first two 3 albums were absolutely amazing, and their whole image and ethos was one that appealed to a teenage me. Everything Must Go signalled the start of the downfall for me, and I suspect some other fans from the early days, although Journal for Plagued Lovers was a welcome return to form (all songs written by Richey though).

That's not to say I haven't liked the odd song from the other albums, just that they're not as exciting and raw as when I first loved them, and they're still a cracking live band, and seem like decent fellas too.

Like a lot of their music. The political lecturing less so, mostly inverted snobbery. I don't think Nye Bevan would be keen on rock stars. Went to a MSP concert pre-lockdown and one was wearing a dress (hard to tell from the cheap seats). Looked like John Cleese in drag.

You went to a MSP concert, and didn't know which one was wearing a dress ??

I'd hazard a guess and say it was Nicky.

only seen them once, at Reading - a long time ago - their fans stood out - fanatical,

The above quote is so important, because its about the NHS - Bevan give the speech in Manchester on 4th July 1948 on the eve of the NHS.

as usual the tory press went absolutely doo-lally.

the young tories formed their own 'Vermin Club' that came with its very own badge (similiar to their badges declaring Mandela as a Terrorist, only to fall at his feet when they thought there was votes to be won following his release) - they dont like to be reminded that the tories fought tooth and nail to stop the creation of the NHS.
