Good luck to our 42nd Boro manager today

And one I've longed to see in the Boro hot seat

Hopefully, fingers & toes crossed he sees us safe this season & carries on next season to a brighter future

John Pickering is for some reason not on the list, taking charge for the 5-2win at Charlton with Lennie gone & waiting for Robbo to come in
Though Colin Cooper & Craig Liddle had one game as manager

How many times does Harold Shepherdson appear? From the war upto the 80s he stepped in everytime we changed manager. Or is it just listing different names?

On an aside John Pickering cost me a signed Boro Stephen Pears shirt when he fell out with the kit man, who resigned and hadn't brought the shirt home with him when he lived next door to my parents:cry:

Flippin eck Erimus. you've really made me feel old. I've counted 19 (20 if you count Venables , but I did not count Pickering or Hignett). SO, since 1967 since my first game, have seen about half of all Boro managers .GULP!!

This post raise a couple of interesting questions. 1. Excluding tempoarary/caretaker managers- who has been the shortest serving manger of Boro.
2, Who has Managed Boro the longest?
I don't know the answers so it is out among you guys.

Good question 👍

In my time I would like it to be big Jack but I know Robbo was here 6 years, there's a couple who managed one game though

But were they caretaker managers such as Pickering/Higgy and Shep. Or were they appointed with the view to manage the team on a more permanent basis?

1) Agnew (probably)
2) Pulis (or did it just feel like it?)

12 months since Neil Warnock walked through the doors at the Riverside, kept us up, stabilised us & hopefully, fingers crossed, takes us forward 🤞👍

He is the best man for the job imho. We could not get a better manager given the shoestring budget SG has to work with. He is a functional manager that gets an extra 10% out of players that then makes the team greater than the sum of its parts. That is why his CV has those promotions on it.

However, the success of the team we end up with will depend on the quality of player that SG is willing and able to afford. Neil will get more from whoever comes in than most would, but it really does depend on affordability first. As Mr Lamb famously stated, and I paraphrase, we will get the team the club can afford, NW then can only do his best with the tools he is provided with. I just hope fans don’t get carried away with expectation. If we finish above tenth then we are moving in the right direction. Promotion is the aim, not the expectation.

As the season draws closer with our 1st press season game out the way & NW starting his umpteenth season as manager & 42nd manager of the mighty Boro I would say my top 3 managers

Big Jack
John Neal
Bruce Rioch

And a special mention to Willie Maddren

I'm not too sure if Schteeve should be at No2 -- I know that'll irk many but let's be honest he did give us UEFA and the Carling cup rides.
