Goalkeepers that have played for 'Boro, who were worse than Tom Glover

Glover is nowhere near as bad as some of the names listed here. He's done alright standing in for Dieng. At the end of the day, there are 10 other players on the pitch and 4,5,6 defensive players the ball must go through to get to the point where the GK is involved. Players giving the ball away and players not tracking their man or tracking runners is the root cause of MOST goals conceded against us.

Carricks insistency that we play out from the back will always put the keeper under more pressure than a GK who was told to go long.

Bettinelli / Lumley. They are recent horror stories.

To be fair pre Steffan we've have had a absolute mare in terms of finding a decent No1.

The 'worst' was the current England manager thinking it was a 'good idea' to have 2 awful keepers battle it out for the No1 shirt in Jones and Turnbull. What the f*ck was he thinking? They were both shocking. Yet gambled prem survival on one or both of them being good enough.
I would say both were probably better than Glover.

I think Glover has largely played well, but an error v Sunderland and a couple last night should signal Dieng's return, if he's fit enough of course.

He probably should have got to the first, but Clarke's clearance leading it to it was porr and Howson got turned inside out by the lad who scored.

What Glover was doing for the second is anyone's guess, it was almost comical.
Diving / moving for the original shot? 🤷🏻‍♂️ FFS you can’t expect Glover or any keeper to be able to get to a deflection that big.

He probably should have done better / got down quicker for the first but even then it’s a slight deflection.

For the second one, looks like he dived in anticipation of the first shot and couldn't get up/adjust for the deflection. I didn't consider it a keeper error at all.
he dived AFTER the shot and even AFTER it had deflected, and while the ball was 20 feet in the air and going nowhere near where he dived. It was an absolute brain fart by him

Feet planted, weight balanced ball has already deflected and he still hasn't moved

But even worse, what on earth was he doing here, this is the top of his dive, and the ball is 20 foot in the air, and going away from goal......what imaginary shot is he trying to save?

I don't think it is as bad as you are making out. It was pretty split second stuff. I've just watched it again on the twitter feed and it is literally a second after it hits our defender that he dives. Maybe a mistake, but don't think it is a terrible one (certainly not on a par with the error against Sunderland).

Didn't notice this at the time but you are right. He's doing on over the top comedy dive because he thinks its gonna fly out of play but he's misjudged the flight of the ball and its dropped at the strikers feet.

Bloody ridiculous.

It is literally seconds, correct, but high level athletes need to make good decisions in that time frame, if you can't make good decisions in that time frame, you should drop down to a lower level where those mistakes aren't punished. Harsh but honest assessment.

One from the past Ian Ironside I remember an cartoon about him in goal could of been in FMTTM comparing him with ironside in the tv series

Thought he reacted slowly overall for the second, which made the finish easier.

It may have made no difference ultimately and our defenders were flat footed too, no one followed in like Riis did.

he lost his footing as he tried to re-adjust
There was no reason to lose his footing, he wasn’t pushing off for his dive then changed his mind. Even if he did lose his footing why then make himself dive for a ball that was 20 foot in the air, slip, get back up and get in position, don’t try and achieve the impossible by saving a shot 25 feet away from you and not travelling towards you. Let’s stop the excuses, it was rank bad decision making

Bit unfair on Tom, he played well when he came in as replacement, Had a couple of mistakes recently but our poor defending has left him exposed and as we cant score if he lets one in its game over usually.

Cruel this. Glover has been fantastic on occasion for us this season. League Cup semi final first leg springs to mind. Very harsh to put him among the worst we've had when he's not even in the top 15 worst we've had in our time in the Championship. Give one's head a wobble.
