Who was our worst ever keeper

Maurice Emerson, Des McPartland. Des was thrown in too young, think he was only 16 when he made his debut, he used to live near my Gran in Doggie

Kevin Poole I recall a FMTTM fanzine cartoon where someone went to shake hands with him but he didn’t have any!

I can’t believe this is a thread. It’s highly disrespectful to the dedicated, hard working professionals who represented Middlesbrough. As a fan base is this what we have become?

that said, Andy Dibble.

Surely no one can be worse than Brad Jones!? I'd be more confident having a backpack between the sticks than him. How the funk did he make a living as a footballer I'll never know.

For me, Guzan and Steele we’re far, far worse than Jones

Had a few poor keepers but as mentioned above Dibble was awful ,i remember him being poor first time around and was astound when we resigned him he had got worse

Gentle Ben for me. Never forget his pathetic effort of saving the early goal in the cup final v Chelsea. Started out 6 ft plus, j,umped up arched his back put his arms up like a T Rex , lifted his legs and ended up about 5ft 6 as the ball sailed over him.

Half way through manager John Neals 1st season in charge he decided who was to challenge, or become the clubs No1 along with Jim Platt, so he gave both Pat Cuff & Dave Brown 10 games each to prove they were good enough
Unfortunately neither were good enough to challenge JP so he went out & paid Kilmarnock £110k for Jim Stewart & immediately gave him the nod as No1 for season 1978-79, half way through the season normal service was resumed & Platt was reinstated as No1, Jim Stewart made the rare appearence after that & his inaugural game at AP he saved a Liam Brady penalty as we ran out 5-0 winners & stopped Arsenal qualifying for Europe
Erimus was that a night match? If it was I remember it for the fact I had broken collar bones. I have never felt so much pain & elation at the same time since.

I can vividly see Des McParland rising to catch a ball dressed in all black with his mop of ginger hair. In my child like eyes if he dressed like that he must be as good as Lev Yashin who also dressed in all black.
I can remember thinking if it wasn't for Willie Wigham Des could be the best keeper in the world.

Jamal Blackman only played once and was beaten 16 times, he was nutmegged from 25 yards for the opening goal he conceded which is something I’ve never seen before or since from a goalkeeper, even more amazingly he’s still a Chelsea player....
