Global Warming off the scale

In order to produce stuff that those in the UK go out and buy in abundance
Which is why it is more important to put the focus on the big corporations rather than the average person. The average person isn't going to change anything, corporations and governments can but they're too interested in maximising profits.

I say that as someone who recycles, has a compost area in the garden, eats vegetarian 99% of the time, doesn't/won't have kids, buys 2nd hand where possible and hasn't been on a plane in 5 years amongst many other things. However I know it's all pointless unless the powerful people decide to change something and I'd never preach to anyone to do the same things as me for that reason.

You set a good example - and, I agree we should put the focus on big corporations.
If we all followed your example big corporations wouldn't have a choice but to scale back - that's why I bang on about personal responsibility. So, I don't think what you are doing is pointless.
.
For me it goes hand in hand with challenging the state etc

Lots of talk about improving the economy but not much talk about bringing the poorer in society back into it. We need to redistribute wealth and be quite sharp about it. Without improving the lot of that large chunk of the population improving the economy isn't going to happen.

An increase in the tax threshold will remove government revenue and this has to be rectified through increasing the rate of tax for the wealthy 10%, and increased quite considerably, together with ending non dom status. The wealthiest receive societies biggest benefits, it's time they put more back into society.

The big corporations need to dig deeper together with those not so big. The education system and NHS provides them with a workforce, it's time their contributions reflected that.

Private schools aren't charities, they're businesses, that should be reflected in their tax status.

We've got to look once again at removing the middle man from the health and social care systems. Direct employment is needed for staff, not paying astronomical amounts to agencies who pass on a lower portion to the people required to do the job.

Are you on a different thread?

A good read, nonetheless

its not just China though, there are a load of countries at it.

the only solution i can see will be through science where we can capture pollution and turn it into something useful or use it in other ways not discovered yet. there is never in our lifetimes going to be a big push from the big polluters to change their habits.

It's funny that just a few years ago they always banged on about , ah climate change you see you cant talk in small untis you have to consider it over multi decadal periods. Yet now they happy to panic everyone who can't interpret science information properly that it's all about the short term doomdastic data. I truly predict within a year they will be telling you there has been the hottest hour on record. And from then on who knows

That's it, I'm glueing myself to linthrope road. That'll help.
I know you're trying to be funny, but if the OP tells you anything it's that XR aren't the enemy, big corporations and billionaires in their private jets and helicopter rides and private trains are.

There used to be a train of thought within the Scientific community that ‘Global Warming’ was just a term used for Scientists to extort dosh from their own governments to spend on useless projects that made them look important.

Maybe because people are too stupid to care or consider the impact 5, 10, 20, 50 years down the line so the messaging had to change

Oh so we just accept our fate then ?
We can still do something about it 👍
The need for powerful Green voices in parliament has never been greater in what is a now or never decade for global warming.

The Conservatives are breaking Britain – they’re destroying our public services, ruining our precious nature and wrecking the climate. And Labour have none of the ambition or commitment to make a difference. Only Greens can be trusted to fight for people and the planet.

Nobby ....you're notebook calls this one spot on
It's time to give the young untried green party a run out from the bench....
They can't be any more corrupt than the current " starting x1" and may well be able to turn the planet by o.ooooooooooo1% the right way.....

I have wanted to vote for them for years but they don't really seem ready or feasible...
Am I wrong ?

I was going to as well, but I do think its best to do one thing at a time. Tactical voting has to be the way forward now, just to get rid of this tory scum.

I know what you mean but if everyone thought like that we might as well have only 2 parties
A vote for the Greens this time might persuade others to vote for them next 👍
