Gladiator 2 trailer

Yeh, Denzil definately doesnt suite this kind of movie with his accent and acting ability

Hes not a classical actor, tends to play a tough down on luck ex cop or cia agent in every film hes ever been in

He’s no Oliver Reed, that’s for sure… I think they could have cast someone better.

An older English actor like Gary Oldman etc

I'm not a big fan of big action blockbusters to be honest and sequels to big blockbusters are usually terrible. I'll approach this with caution. The original looked spectacular but to me felt like a bloated attempt to do a modern epic to rival Ben Hurr, but felt like a pretty mushy bloated script, if you took the epic visuals away it would probably have been a flop. I'll probably go to see it with fairly low expectations, and then maybe I'll be surprised.

I am definitely against the idea of making unplanned sequels to films that were intended to stand alone, just because they have made a fortune at the box office. Crap sequels can ruin the legacy of a great movie, just like TV shows that start off great but go on too long and devalue what went before. At least they didn't make Gladiator 2 straight after the first one, with Maximus somehow having survived - that would have ruined the original!

I'll keep an open mind on this one as it is more than 20 years since the original. I feel that gives the film makers a chance to tell a new story without tainting the original (although I accept it will be similar to Maximus' story - how could it not be?!).

Hopefully it will be as good as Top Gun Maverick, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm sure i heard a rumour that they wanted maximus to be in the sequal by setting it in the afterlife and it being about maximus fighting roman gods and former enemies.

If that was ever thought about then thank god it didn't get made!

Looks alright to me.

I'll probably watch it.

Can't see it being anywhere near as good as the original, but hopefully it's decent.

It looks great, but I can see why the big rap score in the trailer might ring some alarm bells - Ridley Scott can be quite prone to wrecking a good story with overblown action sequences. I always love a film with big Roman armies going to war.

I quite like the music in the trailer, i'm not a fan of Kanye generally but feel that song does build tension. The original film score I love, and find it both soothing and powerful. Big shoes to fill Harry Gregson- Williams has.

I'd be surprised if the sequel is as good as the original, some films just stand out and are iconic. The trailer looks good to me, looking forward to it. As someone said above, I had my doubts about Maverick, what they did well was just remake Topgun in essence (the plot and story was near the same). I do think you can turn your brain off a bit more with Topgun though.

Does it have to be as good as the original though? It can be just decent and be just fine. As long as it's not dire, and if it is just don't watch it.

The end to the tv series Scrubs is one of my favourite tv show endings of all time. We always used to watch it before going out while having some drinks etc and by the time it was ending we were all maturing along with the cast.

Then after the ending, they make some more without some of the major cast and with crap storylines. Scrubs to me is still as excellent as it ever was - I just stop at season 8 ending

But somewhere out there people enjoy that season 9 and as much as I dislike it, the scores aren't awful, it just feels totally different and it's not for me - but some people liked it

Is it really a "sequel" if none of the original characters feature?

(I don't think you can count a few bits of armour and a ring)

It's just another film set in Ancient Rome with gladiators. Using the success of the first film to sell tickets. Might be OK, might not, not sure how anyone can judge from the trailer, but people judge footballers from 5 minute appearances as subs so perhaps I'm just a bit slow?

Sounds like the video game series God Of War, which I think is actually getting a movie adaptation!

I think I'd have been straight to the cinema to watch that Maximus movie TBF! 😅

I don't disagree, plenty of sequels standalone well. By making it a sequel it will always be compared as such though.

I'm quite lucky that I can enjoy films for what they are And turn my brain off.
