Girona.

Top of the Spanish League and Christhian Stuani still going strong at 37 years old! 🙌
Every time we play them I dread him scoring. Last match we were 2-0 up early on at their place. Then lost 5-2 with Stuani scoring late on.

A bit too cold and wet in the winter up there for me. Still much better than the UK though.

Seeing how good Stuani has been for Girona always makes me wonder what he'd have been like for us with a run playing up top. Martinez and Gutierrez are a good pair of young full backs they have there at Girona too.

The mad thing is when he signed there was a direct quote from Karanka (if I could be arsed I'd find it) along the lines of how Stuani is predominantly a striker and that was his best position.

Then proceeded to barely use him in that position for the next 2 years 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦‍♂️

And got us promoted doing just that …
Funny old game and all that

And then heading towards relegation. Yes it is.

Obviously the ends justified the means in the promotion season, but who's to say it wouldn't have been even more comfortable with a prolific Stuani leading the line?

Moot point, because it was clearly good enough. But just because we got promoted didn't mean it was the best decision. I always preferred Albert on the right.

Part of the City group, so it's probably not quite as much of an underdog story as it seems.

Though they'll obviously not be getting anywhere near the focus from the owners as Man City does.

Exactly what I was going to say. Backed by the Middle East billions.

I agree. We had to go out and sign Rhodes to play up top when we had Stuani who could have played there and it meant Adomah missing out who was far better in that position. Would've been interesting to see him up top more.

‘We signed Rhodes ’?
Let’s remember it correctly - Gibson signed Rhodes without Karanka’s knowledge.
The rest is history

I just watched the highlights from yesterday. Sub and 2 goals in 5 minutes at 37. They said he is now Gironas top goal scorer... Imagine if we played his as a striker

We did play him as a stiker. Quite a few times. He never did as well as he did in the RF position for whatever reason. In Karanka's system, Stuani's best position was RF.

Not an obvious choice, but a nice place for a short break.
Bit like York, but the history is much better preserved.
A destination for Spanish hen/stag do's, but the ones we witnessed acted very respectfully, just like in York 😃.

Are you talking about Premier league? Because while we were in the championship he rarely played as a striker but when he did, he often scored.

Think he only scored something like 4 times from open play while played out wide. Scored one from a set piece and his other goals were while played as a striker (albeit most in the cup).

He was very limited out wide but kept the shape and did a job for the team. I don't agree it was his best position though.

I was at that game on Saturday. Stuani always looked likely to score once he came on. He just has that knack of being in the right place at the right time. Girona had Espinosa on their bench too. Remember him?
