Getting rid of Wilder appointing Carrick best decisions Gibbo has made in years

Praise to Gibbo, really good judgment on both fronts. Looking back, Wilder really had become poison. Falling out it appeared with players, throwing them under the bus, dogmatic approach tactics as stale as a month old loaf of bread.

Seemingly more interested in causing disharmony he has nothing to be proud of the way he applied himself in recent times.

It had been questioned about the quality of the playing staff. And the quality of football non existent.

So there really was no other choice but to get rid.

And then in came Michael Carrick. Calm, assured, respected - and you could see the players respond to a managerial style they could respect. Michael rather than slaughters players he encourages them. They can now express themselves with a freeness. And, more importantly, they really appear to enjoy their work.

Make no mistake, we have a manager/coach who will go places in the game. The second half of this season promises to be exciting for sure.

So hats off to Gibbo - ridding us of a liability and appointing a great asset.

I was completely wrong and wholeheartedly agree with you (!)

It's absolutely no coincidence Isiah has started taking his man on again. I've seen people on here say he's bang out of form, but I just don't see it. Yes he has frustrating games but after a year as a RWB I think he's adjusting well to being an out and out winger once again.
For some reason for 3/4 months under Wilder he just continuously went backwards and sides and the Jones we'd absolutely grown to love with that fearlessness had just disappeared.
This I think is the difference, Wilder absolutely stifled him.
I've noticed Carrick at the end of every game, arm round the shoulder and he looks free again.
He knows he's got an asset, he's played along side enough of them and seen the best coaches get the best out of them to know what to do.

His calmness is an absolute god send.

The thing with Carrick is he doesnt have to big himself in press conferences because he's seen it and done it as a player. I've always been of the opinion that people who shout the loudest about their own abilities and wilder was certainly one are the people who actually don't know what they are doing.

His manner is calm and respectful, and with his playing credentials, it can only make the players feel 10 feet tall. Carrick Zen is what we are seeing instead of a horrible twisted has been in Wilder.

Exactly that instant respect is clear to see as you say he doesn’t have to bluff he has done it.

i am particularly liking the fact that we seem to have "found" players in the other parts of the club that were seemingly on the path to being released at the end of the season who are now integral to the team and that was never ever going to happen with wilder.

i do like Carrick's style and i can see why the players have reacted so well to him

Not even pretending to look at our youth policy was just crazy. Did he even bother with u21 games ??? They were just another part of the club to him.

then all of a sudden we have hackney starting who looks like a pro with 20 years under his belt. so good on the ball.

and we then bring on willis who showed some flashes but in fairness only had possession 2-3 times when he came on. i'd like to see more of him and hopefully he is a genuine challenger to Jones for right wing. can only be a positive

Yeah - this comment annoyed me at the time

"Wilder said after the Barnsley game: “The young boys won’t be part of the first-team squad this season. We’re talking about Championship football and these young boys need to go out and learn. Some will stay in and develop through training with and being coached by us here."

Not much of a motivation really

There has to be a golden thread at a club like ours as the academy is our USP it’s the jewel in our crown so without that we are just another champ side.

The way he didn’t seem bothered was odd snd you knew gibbo wouldn’t like that given all he has invested in it.

To be fair regarding Isaiah Jones, it was blatantly obvious he would play better as an outright winger rather than RWB. To have such a young talent take on the responsibility of making that right hand side entirely his own was always a big ask.

You look at the likes of Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, or Reece James and they're not not 100% at the role, let alone a young lad barely out of the U23s.

Thats a good point and the RWB is almost an impossible position to play consistently well over a long period of time.

Alexander Arnold struggling with it this season for example having been a role model previously.
