I’m thinking of going over for a bit of a cultural exchange. Like in a self made ambassadors role.Wow, that one has a railway line across the top.
We were surprised to walk into as open a red light district as I've seen outside of Amsterdam when walking round the walls. Like a combination of Amsterdam and York.
For a place not much bigger than Middlesbrough that's fantastic. I think I could spend my life taking weeks or weekend breaks in different German cities and never ever get bored.I've worked in Regensburg on several occasions and it really is a beautiful place: impressive historic buildings (check out the Cathedral), winding streets, not unlike the Shambles in York, with small independent shops and a wide selection of excellent restaurants ranging from classic German food to haute Cuisine. And all of which are very high quality. Regensburg doesn't do tat. Have a look at the Kneitinger Restaurant on Bismarckplatz which serves some of the best German food with the brewery in the same building.
Then there's the theatre offering opera, drama, ballet and classical concerts if that's your thing; the Museum of Bavarian History is fascinating and you can go for scenic walks for miles along the Danube which flows through the city.
So that's a yes from me.
Too right. Don't get me started on the different levels of funding for the Arts in GB and Germany. Though it is a long, complex and fascinating story. For a place not much bigger than Middlesbrough that's fantastic. Anyone can buy these tickets. Valid from June, July and August. 9€ for the whole month. Can use them for trains too but not the expensive fast, intercity ones. So you can travel about a bit with them if you persever. We’re using them to travel from Munich to Cologne for example. This might also be of interest to anyone heading to Germany this Summer: 9 euros for all local public transport for a month. Not 100% certain it applies to tourists, but I've not seen that it doesn't. It doesn't apply to main Intercity trains, but it does to all local busses, trams, U-bahn etc.

I live in Munich and work frequently just north of Nuremberg. Beautiful country.
Thanks for all of the advice given. We've had a great time despite the heat.
Apartment in Nuremberg was central and we had a couple of nights in Munich. Made day trips to Bamberg, Regensburg and Bayreuth but our favourite spot for an afternoon drink was in Fürth which was accessible by the underground.
Once again, thanks all.
Ah Lubek is a beautiful beautiful town. I'm going there myself this year, mate is getting married on the shore of the Baltic and we are going to do a tour of that part of Germany after. Thanks,
I'm planning a trip round Hamburg and Lubeck in the near future, so this is worth knowing.
Went to see Greuther Furth play in Bundesliga 2 one Christmas market visit to Nurembourg. It was the coldest I’ve ever been at a match. Thanks for all of the advice given. We've had a great time despite the heat.

We bought the €9 ticket at a newsagent type of shop in Nuremberg airport before getting the underground into town. We used it on all forms of transport and only the trains were really busy.Hi Corcaigh,
glad you had a good time.
Quick questions: did you use the 9 Euro ticket in Bavaria, and if so, how did you find it?
I found it great in Hamburg and the North, but a bit of a nightmare around Cologne, where it seemed to be a victim of it's own success, with the service buckling under demand.
I'm half thinking of another trip before the end of August, because it is a bargain but, I'd be interested in knowing how it's working elsewhere in the county.
