So, Rishi is hinting the general election will take place in the second part of 2024 and stated he's got lots to get on with before then. In the meantime, the rest of us suffer.

And he can delay it until late January 2025 if he chooses to

I still think it will happen in the spring. Number 10's refusal to agree with cleverly on reducing small boat crossings to zero before the end of the year suggests Sunak wants the option of waiting later in the year, however I suspect they will rely on polling almost exclusively to decide when to call an election.

The only benefit, for the rest of us, with a delayed election, is that the fury felt by the population could destroy them for a generation or more.
That, however, supposes the population have the balls to do it

Hes going to try and tie the timing to the US election in November, which will probably see a Trump victory - expect an even bigger backlash if he does

I think the presumption that the defeat gets worse the longer it is delayed is hard to justify historically. I have known three instances of a government whose time felt to be up staggering on for almost the full five, and in all three of those the gap closed in the fifth year, by not enough to make much difference in 1997, by enough to produce a hung parliament in 2010, and by enough to change the result in 1992. While today clearly feels most like 1997, it’s still a big presumption to assume the gap will open up this time.

There must a few quid they have yet to get their hands on.

I don't think it will make a rat's rrse of a difference when they call it, they are widely despised and ridiculed, out of touch and openly corrupt. I don't know of a single person who will openly admit to intending to vote for them. Of course there will be some "shy tories" who would vote for a blue rosette on pile of hoss manure.

I live in central beds and the feeling around the tory village I live in is that the tories are cr@p. They have, generally, switched off to politics and whilst many dislike Starmer, but cannot say why, beyond being labour leader, the tories are done, whether it's autumn or spring.

they had momentum then and took the chance. this time round who knows!
Labour have given them momentum the past two general elections with in fighting and a ridiculous position on Brexit.

Conservatives are all ready 5 years overdue a whopping! History dictates that given Labour enough time they will find a way to lose the next one!

Reform are quiet.. I’m guessing they will attract the self employed racist morons.

Lib Dems ready to to track the magnolia set.. the ikea furniture brigade.

So we’ll have the neo liberal split between middle management bmw semi wannabe vs those who can’t say/do anything and they have their opinion.. too much wokery.. etc
