GCN closure

I'm not a subscriber, but I think a few of the cyclists on here might well be. It's a bit of a blow to race coverage even though they say Discovery will continue to provide some coverage, but at what level. Subscriptions will also be over double the price of GCN+. We'll see what develops.

I got the email and had to double check.
Disappointing.

🚴‍♂️

The problem I see is that many of the groups marketing these things aren't actually interested in the sport. It's the spin-off, back story programs they are really interested in.

Gutted - I have been a subscriber for the past few years, couldn't fault it.
I always thought it was too good a deal - will have to reluctantly try Discovery+ option... concerned the ads will make viewing harder mind.

That is sad - their coverage has been fab.
I've got discovery and eurosport thru BT so will see what happens

Yep it is sad but Eurosport will continue to cover the majority of the World UCI road events. Orla now doing rugby. She must have known in advance.

It's the smaller events that concern me as unofficial streaming sites like Tiz that I use, may struggle. I'm probably one of the few on here who religiously watch cyclo-cross during the winter for instance and it's already difficult to find a stream for some of the smaller mid-week events.

all the eurosport content is / will be on Disc+ which I have used in the past as you can dip in a month at a time, but rnated the annual isnt as good value as GCN was. I imagine the GCN documentaries etc will be a thing of the past.

I think GCN made a booming loss which is what is behind it. why support two apps / platforms when you can use 1.

It wasn't making a loss. It's a pure restructuring exercise by WBD.

In a video posted on GCN’s YouTube channel, presenter and former pro racer Simon Richardson, along with fellow presenter and ex-pro Daniel Lloyd, stressed that “the reason for [the app’s] closure is not because it didn’t work or it was underperforming. It’s that the media industry landscape has changed.”
