I think he's got real potential to be a top class manager. Watching him on sky when they talked about tactics in depth, he's exactly the kind of manager England need after Southgate.

I’m not disagreeing but I do fantasise about a day when England could appoint a manager whose actually won some stuff, rather than just kept a medium sized PL club out of the relegation zone, for a season or two, as if it’s some kind of seismic achievement.
Agree with this, given the calibre of players England have at the moment, maybe I’m a few more years if he’s managed to win something or managed a top 10 PL team fora few seasons.

Someone like Fabio Capello or Sven Goran Erikson or Steve McClaren or Howard Wilkinson?

Well I’d prefer it to be someone English, whose won something in England perhaps, so that rules out 2 of those 4. But yeah, maybe someone like Wilkinson whose won the English top flight (of course, not the PL, that’s how long ago it was).

Unfortunately that reduces the pool to a tiny pool, Harry Redknapp, Terry Venables , Bobby Gould.( a few other of a similar ilk).

Of all the people I didn’t expect to turn into a bloody good manager, but he’s at home in the Premier League for two clubs. Really impressed me and would get more respect as a manager if he wasn’t Gary O’Neil.

On paper he’s done much better in both his jobs than Scott Parker or Lampard.

He’s doing a really good job. He impressed me when he was on MNF.

I actually thought “carra” was quite patronising about what he was saying, but he stuck to his guns

Flavour of the month, wolves were a decent team last year but couldn’t score at all, that’s changed this year and hence they’re doing better

Graham potter was the best thing since sliced bread not so long ago and southgates replacement in waiting.

I know, it’s a fantasy rather than an expectation. You do wonder if/when the big English clubs will start employing English managers again. I know Chelsea have had a bit of a go, but no one else.

He's obviously doing a good job, results speak for themselves.

Listening to him talk about tactics is impressive, but hard to say how he compares to his peers because not many go on the TV and into that level of detail.

I'd guess most modern coaches, particularly at prem level, are doing similar things these days. We just don't usually get that level of insight as fans.

I'd actually question the wisdom of being so open about it mind. I suppose opposition teams will know what they do anyway given the level of analysis that goes into games. But still, why risk giving something away if you don't have to? Marginal advantages etc.

Doing it comes across as a tad narcissistic/showing off.

I get why Boro fans especially don’t like him but it’s a little odd to write him off based on events 12/13 years ago as a player when all the evidence suggests he’s knuckled down and really applied himself to get the most out of his coaching career.

They don’t like him because he admitted deliberately getting booked.
Those that get booked deliberately, but don't admit it, get a free pass.
