Garry Monk defends managerial record

Didn't we spend £47 million but recoup about £45 million?

I fully expected us to play Bamford and Stuani up top, with Gestede as an option and sign a poacher.

The squad didn't need that level of overhaul.

We waited about ten year to get on to a financial even keel, then absolutely ruined ourselves for next five years in about six weeks.

Baffling.
 
It didn't work for him here, was all very strange, ended with us sacking another manager after a win...

However, he did achieve Swansea's highest Premier League finish (8th with their highest points tally in PL) and he did get Leeds to their highest Championship finish since their relegation to League One (7th missing out on play-offs on final day), after a load of managers had failed there and been sacked

Leeds wanted him to stay we stepped in because it looked like he was an up and coming manager who had done well in difficult circumstances, and had PL experience with Swansea

Everyone's a genius with the benefit of hindsight ;)

Woodgate is 10 times the manager Monk was, is or ever will be.
 
I was chatting with a die hard Swansea fan about Monk and he described him as a fraud. Didn’t have a good word to say about him and blames him for undoing the good work and good side that had been put together by the previous 3 or 4 managers. He reckons a large proportion of their fans share this view. I completely agreed with him that he’s a self promoting fraud of a manager.
 
He had probably the biggest budgets in the division and it looked like we were not going to make the play offs and he persuaded Simon Jordan on Talksport that he was wrongly dismissed - unbelieveable.

Its taken 4 years to recover from his transfer policy/mistakes.

Simon Jordan is just a rentaquote, style over substance, and a complete narcissist, earned 75mill and blew pretty much all of it, what a clown. I put absolutely zero stock in anything he says. He is however a hundred times nicer than his girlfriend.
 
Monk was a disaster but we had a lot of fans on this site defending him to the bitter end, as BoroBukowski says everyone's a genius in hindsight.

I remember posting on the old board, after a dozen games or so that I was really concerned with his appointment, that I couldn't understand what he trying to do and that I couldn't understand why he had bought the players he had.

I got dogs abuse from some know it all posters.

Monk was like a 5 year old kid before Christmas with a copy of the Argos catalogue picking toys outside of his age range.

He should never have been allowed to make some of the signings he made without justifying why and ensuring that the squad was being balanced accordingly.

I agree with you and agreed with you at the time but I can gurantee there'll be people on this thread who were singing his praises at the time.
 
I can stand him. I hate how they always roll him out for Middlesbrough games. They would openly talk about how we are consistently low scorers while Britt and Fletcher were up top for us. Yet he'd never say 'I bought those duds'.

Thank god they seem to use Downing for Boro analysis these days 👍

Yep enjoy Downing a lot more positive and a proper Boro legend. Monk could talk a glass eye to sleep
