Gareth to Man U ???

Their fans already hate him. Large contingent aren’t big into England, don’t rate what he’s done there as still view anything less than trophies as a failure. That and they still get wound up about him “getting Keane sent off” when he managed to goad the feral fckr into a stamp.

Would love him to show them otherwise but I don’t think he has the tools on the training ground for week in, week out football with a style of play.

I would add most MU fans are not English - even at games there will be large contingents from Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Mainland Europe, Asia etc

I certainly wouldn’t want GS back here - he was a fantastic player for us but he’s never a good manager, not in a million years. And international management is totally different to managing a league club

Gareth’s done an absolutely fantastic job at resetting and rebuilding the culture of England and how the team are perceived. And results followed.

Don’t forget how toxic the whole England experience was before he took over. Players hated it, so did the fans and media, and we were massive underachievers.

Thing is, he did it with young players and did it by lowering expectations to remove pressure.

Can’t do that with United, they’re too big.

Not to say he doesn’t have more strings to his bow and he’s obviously a great person. I also think Ratcliffe might sort them out and United will be a proper team again in a few years. But you’d think Gareth would be more suited to a low pressure rebuild somewhere a bit more chilled than that behemoth of a club, Arsenal maybe.

Southgate is too decent a man to go to Man United. They are a basket case even with Ineos being involved.

I fully expect them to appoint someone like the coach from Sporting Lisbon.
