Well the way he explains it, the mayor of Greater Manchester has been neglecting the smaller towns at the expense of Manchester and he would correct that by concentrating his efforts on places like Rochdale.

But he's probably just eyeing up a more prestigious, better paid job.

Galloway's whole by-election campaign was focused on Gaza/Palestine 1st and giving Keir Starmer a kicking 2nd. The wellbeing of the folk of Rochdale trailed home a distant 3rd.

He's a grifter.
 
Being an MP is just a way into parliament for most of them. Let's not pretend that any of them are particularly good at representing their areas. They all jump at the chance of ministerial roles, 2nd/3rd/4th jobs etc. They spend as little time as possible in their constituency. He's a grifter but they all are. They'd all move around to the safest seat possible if they could.

Galloway has won a by-election 3-6 months before a general election and he didn't have to face a Labour candidate. He knows his job is on the line in the not too distant future so it makes sense to use the profile he has recently gained to get himself a more permanent job.

I wouldn't trust him to do a good job as Mayor of Manchester. He'll be doing it for himself an I don't think the situation he had in Rochdale will be repeated so it would likely be a losing campaign anyway. He's probably better off attempting to hold his Rochdale seat.

When is it ever about the good of the constituency? Our friend Tom Blenk indulgently and arrogantly and abandoned his MSEC residents leaving the door wide open for Clarke to saunter in and wreck havoc nationwide. That fraud has a lot to answer for and now snipes from the sidelines.
