It's just salt beef, served in the east end of London by the Jewish immigants in bagels for many years.

I actually really like a corned beef (the British stuff) with cress between a couple of slices of heap white bread. Takes me back to school trip packed lunches.

No, I'm thinking of salt beef which is served in a couple of famous East End bagel shops on Brick Lane, and has been for many years. For example this one.

Bit of googling reveals the main difference between the two are that pastrami is smoked, whereas salt beef isnt.
