Hello all. Some of you may have heard of the Ali Brownlee Social Club I host / throw together from Base Camp Boro. It's quite a simple way of connecting Middlesbrough / Teesside together in person and across the world. Regular features include hook ups with Teesside ex-pats across the world; gourmet crisp sandwich making with Ben Taylorson; I wanna go home - analysing why Teessiders have an aversion to a number of rival clubs; They Don't Right Them Like That Anymore - songs of teessiders and One Of Our Own - where we pay tribute and tell stories of 'characters' that have defined teesside.

We started that with Astor Garriques, Mouth of the Tees last time and then selected Frankie Bam Bam for next Wednesday's show, (6pm before the England match on Wednesday)...

And so... I hesitate to ask this... does anyone have a story about Frankie they'd like to share with me on here - or even better on the show via zoom or if you wanted, live at Base Camp where we have a sold out audience for the event. I've spoken to Frankie Jr and he has given his blessing to talk abut his Dad.

Cheers. Mike

Not a particularly funny or entertaining story but the last time I went to an away match with him was a game at Ipswich. From setting off at 7am (it was a night match..........) to getting home around 4am the next morning he never once shut up. He was relentless, god bless him.

End of season game in the sunshine? Felt like a pre season nothing game? Thankfully I only drove up to that from Kent but wish I hadn’t bothered. Not sure if it was Downing’s debut too.

Frankie would always say call me The Bam. An incredible character for many years he hitched to games. The first time I met him I was introduced to him at Billingham Synthonia Club by Synners manager Tony Lee. "This lad is a top Boro fan. He hitched down to Plymouth last week for the game and when he got there it had been postponed."
Frank had been bucket man for Tony Lee at Whitby Town for the season - his only time away from the Boro. I imagine he was very much a bucket and sponge man as well. But he had a lot of football knowledge, a one time apprentice at Middlesbrough. Only his liking for pranks etc was his downfall there and that involved a bucket of water as well.

It was certainly end of season and think we got beat 1 - 0 but it was a long day, the match memories have faded a bit!

Great clip that from "Marching On Together" film., a total classic.
It is fair to say his cheer leading was often held back by his forgetting the lines to the Boro chants.
"Have a good day," is typically Frankie.

There is video of him at Banik Ostrava in their ground somewhere on you tube singing about Geordies at home watching the Bill after a good few beers.

I had a video sent to me in 2006 with him on a coach of Boro Lads driving through Bucharest (UEFA Semi) and in a bar meeting some local women. It was dubbed in a funny but little offensive way. So I imagine it was taken down from social media sites.

Had some good trips away with the Bam in the 90s and 00s, including Europe. Young Frankie had his stag do up here, that was interesting.

That video is on YouTube but he's singing 'Geordies at Home watching The Street' 😁

I remember after one of the Chelsea cup finals. The Monday morning after, I happened to be watching The Big Breakfast as it came on air. Jonny Vaughan was talking about the Chelsea cup win as he is a big Chelsea fan and at the end of the section he said 'I also have to say a big hello to a Boro fan who absolutely tortured me Frankie Bang Bang' ....he got the name slightly wrong but it could only have been one person that he'd encountered 😂 Laughed my socks off.....
