Forss is he a nailed on starter when fit?

I think he'll work quite well for us when teams sit deep, as when it's tight and intricate and you get a chance, he's our best chance of scoring I think. LL needs more space to use his pace I think, which is why he struggles a bit when teams sit back. He's not as much of a poacher etc.

Having Dieng in the side will suit Forss more too I think, as we won't be lumping it up much, and lumping it up to Forss doesn't suit him, but LL isn't so bad in that situation.

We only got Dieng last season, but combining that with Forss playing they only had these games together, it's not a lot. Obv the start was bad, but the other results were good.

Be good actually having a hopefully full strength side with Hackney, McGree and Jones fit too, also adding Morris and Azaz too.

Can't even remember when we were last close to having a full strength side, with some of the ability we have now.
Another question is when we have a fully fit squad, is Fry now the 4th choice centre back?

He played about 40 games with Steffen the season before, who didn't lump it either. So I'm not sure who you are comparing him with?

I forgot about him to be honest.

My first choices would be Lenihan and VDB, but it's a tougher choice now with Clarke being good before getting injured and Edmundson is getting better and better. Fry might even be 5th choice until he's been back fit for a while.

I think Fry's probably one of the better defenders out of that lot, but we're not doing that much defending tbh, and what we have done has been quite sound. We need the centre backs to be able to play a bit now, it's crucial to get the most out of the team.

Good problem to have though, happy with any of those 5 I think.

Yeah, that was when Carrick just came in, and the form was great then too, it was league winning form, barring the last 3 games of the season when Forss got injured.

Forss was mostly on the right then though of course, and still got ~10 goals in the last 20 games. It's more trying to continue that on, but I also think we're keeping the ball on the deck less now than we ever have to be honest, and have better options on the right and everywhere, so it opens more doors.

We went through a period last year when Dieng was out injured/ away when glover or whoever would launch it, or when Lenihan got injured or other injuries with the defence, so had players who were worse on the ball than the ones in the side now, so they lumped it more.

He's not a nailed on starter and his all round game in that position isn't as good as Doak or Jones.

But he is the best finisher at the club for me so you'd like to get him on the pitch as much as possible. Particularly when others players are misfiring in front of goal.

I wonder if he could be as effective on the left, coming inside onto his right foot would be a real threat. He works hard too so would offer some protection to the left back.

But then of course do you leave McGree out for him? Not unless he's injured. Put McGree as the 10 and leave Azaz out? Possibly, but doubt Carrick would.

Who'd be a manager eh!
I think it was Maddo last season who said Carrick thinks he's best position is from the left. I took it with a pinch of salt and just thought he'd got his left and right mixed up as he's never had a sniff in that position, but I do think how we set up he would be a good option from the left as he can drift in field and pick up the striker / 10 positions.

I think it'd be good against the "low block" too. You get plenty of chances to shoot from around 20 yards when teams seat deep and I'd far rather it be Forss drifting in off the left and having those attempts than Azaz.

Best striker of a ball since Jimmy IMO.

Whenever Carrick mentions him it's about having good options on the right so I think it's clear that that's where he sees him fitting in. Will be interesting though as we will have 3 people competing for 1 position. Doak is only 18 and hasn't yet played 90 mins for anyone so I can't see him starting all the remaining 40 games. Forss is a different type of player to Doak and Jones who are more 'take on the fullback' proper wingers so if you have Forss there we lose that. Forss is a natural finisher though so does add a goal threat ghosting in from the right (as Stuani did for Karanka's team).

A high-class problem really as all 3 are good Championship players.
