Having used toilets when visiting Newcastle I can confirm that Geordies never wash their hands after a wee or a plop 🤮

The reaction depends on age and any underlying problems. Youngsters no problem oldies with prostate problems maybe should be worried.

Overheard a woman chatting to her daughter yesterday and she said that somebody had been quarantied in the Grand Hotel in Scarborough.

I'd imagine it was probably a false alarm though.

All people have some level of antibodies against the stem portion of the influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA).

Doesn't stop people getting different strains of flu though...
It doesn't stop people getting the flu but can mitigate consequences as it is the body fighting viruses that begins to break down healthy cells. Having some antibodies reduce that likelyhood.

Hmm not convinced to be fair. The flu is as deadly as coronavirus. If we didn't vaccinate against some strains it'd be worse every flu season.

WHO disagree about severity but the issue will be if delay leads to the virus naturally subsiding in a few months time. The UK getting a 50% increase in new cases per day which would lead to the whole population getting contact with / infection in about 3 weeks. The USA seems to have much lower infection rates than Europe. Italy still running at 20% increase per day with major containment policies.

It really annoys me when people don’t wash their hands when they have an opportunity to eg after using the toilet. Why should an elderly person or somebody on immuno-suppressant medication catch a potentially life threatening illness because some lazy inconsiderate, ignorant person hasn’t taken the opportunity to wash their hands as often as they could?

One thing that hasn't been highlighted is the transmission rate - a study of the virus so far estimates it as 2.6 people infected by each carrier. That is less than I expected, given the way the media are reporting the spread of the virus.

I guess there will come a point where the virus has plateaued and although there are new cases, the overall number remains about the same, in the same way that flu spreads.

Yeah that'll happen but it may not be for a while. I just wish everyone would remain calm and release basic hygiene and common sense will slow the spread of the virus. Not buying 16 bog rolls.
