Exactly this. The lure of the Premier League was and is strong for a lot of people and the truth is that we will always get more ST buys if it looks like we have a chance of going up.Make no mistake, the reason season tickets have increased is because of last seasons success, the likelihood of our promotion at the time and the Michael Carrick effect. It's foolish to think there's any other reason.
If we look like a mid-lower table all this season, you aren't getting such a healthy renewal.
I don't know whether this is something the club take notice of but it's really easy to not go back once you have spent some time away from going. I used to go home and away, 30+ games in the PL and Championship seasons and I've just gotten out of the habit now. It is mainly because I live down south now but I didn't even try to get a ticket for the match at Watford and I literally have no plans to attend a home match. Last season I might have been tempted and I did do a few away matches, but when the football isn't great AND you have this sort of nonsense going on behind the scenes, it just does nothing for me.
