Flu Jab

I received a text from my GP surgery last Monday offering the Flu jab to be given on Saturday.
I called them back on Friday 3 pm and they said call in the car park at 11.05 am Sat morning.

Set off at 10 45 am, arrived 11. am, receptionist stood outside the wide open door with a clipboard, took my name and time, walked to the next receptionist just inside the door who advised to put on hand gel at table, walked into the surgery, door was wide open and nurse sat at desk. all completed for 11.05 am. Home for 11.20 am. ...hows that for service?

They seem to have 4 nurses stationed doing 4 people every 2 or 3 mins. Must be practising the routine for the Covid Vaacine ?
On the ball like.

I had to go to St Barnabas Church Hall. Queueing out of the door when I got there on Friday evening. All done and dusted within ten minutes. Two people on laptops checking details, and two injection booths.

Me too. Appointment 10.03am. I liked the idea of the precise minute - queue looked massive but took only 10 mins. And it was an American vaccine too. I didn't see anyone leave when told that.
Am sure there could not have been a better rehearsal for the COVID vaccine roll out.

Mine was done through a window, had to stick my arm in while standing in the cold/ rain but got my one-off pneumonia jab at the same visit in my other arm. Only found out the other day as part of a covid discussion that flu jab is only 50-60% effective which you should be told before deciding whether to have it imho

More people that get it the better for all

Great service. Had there been a GP involved it wouldn't have gone that smoothly. I bet you didn't spot one while you were at the surgery.

If you just go into Boots and ask for it you’re done in literally 5-10 minutes.
do you have to be eligible for a free one on the NHS though - I want to get a flu jab but cant find out where I can get it done as someone who does not qualify for a free NHS one?

how are all you guys getting it done? presumably you have to pay for this (which is perfectly fine with me btw)?

Kid gets it free, wife free via her job, I have to cough up a tenner or something. You just walk into Boots and ask for it, like buying a bottle of cough medicine. Then they take you out the back and the shopkeeper (ok, a qualified one) gives it to you.

Darlo are doing it in the car park of the football stadium, drive thru stylee. Only problem was I wanted mine in my left arm so had to twizzle in the seat. Took about twenty minutes but you're sat in your car so it doesn't matter. I guess there are different facilities for non drivers?

So I have to walk into a boots then presumably as I cannot book online? I'm very confused by all this to be honest

I was the same . Never stopped moving and never touched anything as even all the doors were open . Felt like on a conveyer belt so defo preparing for Covid jab

Ha yeah you literally just go into Boots and ask for it. No booking required. It’s not confusing at all really!
Well it was a bit to me, the wording above is a bit mis-leading if as a non-eligible customer I still can get one done! I didn't get that you couldn't make a booking for non-NHS but could attend a walk-in. The screenshot above doesn't state "have a wander down and if you're not eligible for a free one, that's fine, just shell out a few quid and we'll get you sorted" - it states specifically that the "As per government guidelines, this stock is strictly only available for NHS eligible customers, not private paying customers" of which I am the latter

Same here pretty much, very well organised - In and out in under 5 mins. Didn't even know I was eligible for a free one tbh, am only 45. Got it well over a month ago.

Oh I didn’t see that post and yeah I don’t really know what it means, appears to be saying they’ve ran out of stock and the new stock is only for those who are entitled to it.

I’ve no idea who is or isn’t eligible for free ones to be honest, but pretty certain I’m not so I just pay.

Best thing to do is just ask next time you pass a Boots.
