Fitness/health/training/nutrition thread

Morning FMTTM.

I do like to give back where I can, and I'd like this thread (if it doesn't sound too self absorbed) to be the go to place for advice on the above.

Don't worry, I'm not soliciting for business, I live between Winchester and Southampton.

For those who don't know me, I'm a gym owner with over 100 Personal Training Clients, I have an online nutrition company and was nominated in the top 10 nutrition coaches in the UK in 2018. I've coached Premier League Footballers, Bodybuilders and semi pro athletes. But mainly just people like you and me who just want sound advice and help.

I certainly don't know everything, but have some decent experience in helping people get healthier, educated and fitter too.

So whatever your question, I'm here to help :)

Good to hear someone in the same business, I also have a gym albeit much smaller than yours by the sounds of it. Was about to employ my first staff before the lockdown hit but not sure where I am now with clients being cautious about restarting again, hopefully things will pick up as the weeks and months go by.

Have you got any decent links or suggestions for routines to build some lean mass? Looking to get back into it after a couple of years out (kids) and was hoping to do a 3 day split. Need to sort my dad bod!

I thought your gym was in County Durham?

You should hardly get sore at all if you train consistently. So if you're training 3/4+ times a week and not stop starting all the time it should be pretty mild and not bother you.

Also keep your potassium up a couple of bananas post work out usually assists if I’ve done a particularly heavy session.

Been training for the last six weeks, four times a week, and had DOMs early on but not since. However, one particular exercise I did on Saturday just gone had caused some pain in my core, making it painful to turn over in bed, for example. Seems to have gone away now but Sunday night it wasn't nice.

This particular movement was a TRX Knees to Chest, first time doing it and I won't be doing it again any time soon.

Pain is different to soreness. That sounds more like a slight muscle pull. If you've only been training 6 weeks then your body will still be adjusting and getting used to training, as well as you are learning how to do each exercise with good form.

Nice one @Evil good of you to offer your expertise. 👍🏻

To add my current knowledge on reopening guidelines is as follows :-

No Masks required
Free weights areas will be available for use
Booking time slots
Change before going to the gym
Classes running but reduced sizes
More cleaning equipment available (people should wipe after use)
Gyms will be shutting for periods (like 30 mins) to allow regular clean downs.

I hope to hear of my fellow fmttmers getting fit and healthy for the winter season, no excuses!

I`ve kept up the exercise regime and hit 81.4 kg yesterday, down from 90 kg at the start of April.
I`ve suprised myself - stuck to a diet, exercise regime an routine.
Things have happened - like I have consumed only half a loaf of bread in 2 weeks [no conscious effort].
Not found need for cheese late night snacks.
Lots of bran, protien, salad stuff, fruit, wholegrain rice, no processed stuff.

Evil - do you reckon you could ask admin?
Health / Fitness / Mental and Physical wellbeing? Could be a good sticky and motivation for others?
Or shall I.
Cheers.

I've never stepped foot in a gym but at the start of lockdown I was worried I would eat myself into trouble so signed up for the bodycoach's 90 day plan. I wan't particularly overweight when I started (67 kg at 5ft 8) but have got to 63-64 kg (I seem to fluctuate between the two). Currently at day 80 out of 90 so any advice on what sort of exercises I should be looking to do try and keep lean would be welcomed. When I return to work then time is a major factor - I've liked the fact that the sessions have only been 35 minutes but I feel like I need something more challenging now.

On a side note, I was training for the GNR a couple of years ago but got a sudden pain underneath my knee cap. I can now only run 3-4 miles before the pain resumes. I've been to physios but they give me the same generic stretches which have had no affect thus far and I'm pretty annoyed as I use to enjoy running between 6-10 miles 3x a week.

I think there are good physios and also lots of rubbish ones. Id do loads of your own research online and find exercises that can strengthen your knee. I knackered my shoulders and got nowhere with my physio. He had no intention of finding the root causes of my injuries, and just gave some sh*tty stretches to do.

Good luck mate, if you need any help/chat about plans I have etc I'll be happy to chat. :)

If you want generic plans, anything by Layne Norton is brilliant generally.
