We had been unbeaten at home to this point.
So a 3-1 defeat was unexpected!

Ha, same. Sat in the east stand. Typical boro, letting you down right from the start. Next match I went to was in Holgate v Bournemouth, and that was me hooked. What a ride those first couple of seasons were.
 
88/89 season, Simod Cup v Crystal Palace. Holgate End.

Seem to recall 2-1 up going into the last minute....got beat 3-2. Memory a bit hazy but think Southgate and Ian Wright scored that day? (although could be wrong.....🤔🤔)
 
I was only 5 when my mam and dad took me too my first game and don't actually remember much about it. Brian Clough scored five goals as The Boro side ran out 9-0 winners over Brighton at Ayresome Park on 23 August 1958.

From that unmemorable start things could only get better. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: UTFB

I don't think GS had made his professional debut at that point. Alan Pardew did score, and Coops did indeed put us ahead in the 89th minute with a worldly. What happened next was the stuff of childhood nightmares.

Everton away in the cup for me. 1-1 draw, Sharpe scored for them followed by Paul Kerr equalising for us.
 
Villa away in 89 (relegation battle). Not long after Hillsborough, so sat in the Villa end as I don't think their was away seating (I was 11). Went 1-0 up through Davenport. Mowbray did an amazing rugby tackle to stop one of their players when clean through with 10 minutes to go and in those days it wasn't a strait red. Unfortunately, they equalised in the last minute, which and we subsequently got relegated.

Better memory than me - Southgate made his debut the next season. Glad I can remember the result still......or not as the case may be👍

Sure Wright scored the winner...... although I'm probably wrong on that too.......
 
Boro 5 Arsenal 0 ... 1980

I got a squeeze and we won 5-0 ... this football thing was brilliant ... hope it's like this every week!
 
West Ham at Ayresome park. Was right at the front of the boys end, pitch level, couldn't see much. Score was 0-0 Clyde Best was playing for West Ham i seemed to see most of him, probably at full back.
