Fikayo Tomori

For this World Cup, more so than any other tournament we should be picking form players given that we are mid-season.

Makes no sense just to pick the usual suspects regardless of how they are playing. I thought we had broken this mould over the last 2 tournaments but maybe not.

Good point re form but Gareth has his favourites that wasn’t changing anytime soon.

But the flip side is that introducing players into the squad that haven't worked, played and trained with this squad gives zero time to integrate them. It's a team game, and you need to know the tactics and formation before joining up with the squad.. Players would get about 3 training sessions prior to the first match which isn't enough

Yeah it's a tricky one isn't it. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Maybe we could have made more use of a larger pool of players for the Nations League games to make sure we had more players to slot in and ready to hit the ground running.

Either way, in Gareth we trust!

Maddison I have, but we don't usually play with a 10, and I wouldn't drop Foden, Saka, or Grealish for him.

Agree with this. I'd have taken him to throw on if things aren't working against a stubborn opponent - but Grealish currently does that role well.

My inkling with Maddison is that he doesn't get on with one/more of the squad. Southgate has his famed All Blacks 'no d***heads' policy and that's worth more than having a(nother) decent option from the bench.

Our back up striker to kane is a problem. Personally don't think we have one. Wilson is a decent premiership player, but don't think he is good enough for regular international football in the decisive games. That's why I'd go for players like Rashford who although inconsistent has the ability to play well against the best. Likewise Grealish. Glad Maddison is in the squad if true, but don't think he will get many minutes. We desperately need Sterling to find his form as he is very important for England. Let's hope Walker gets fit quickly and likewise Phillips, although I would take a chance and go with Rice and Bellingham as the midfield two, along with Mount and have Foden, Kane and Sterling up front. Let's see how it pans out. I think our attacking options are decent, just the main striker. We've only really got Kane.
